Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in human services, criminal justice, or related field. A combination of experience demonstrated knowledge and/or education may be substituted for a degree.
· Extensive knowledge of working with people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), people with Mental Illnesses (MI), and people with co-occurring Substance Use Disorders (SUD).
· Understanding the Community Mental Health system and the criminal justice system including probation and parole.
· Must be self-motivated, organized, and timely.
· Excellent communication and mediation skills.
· Ability to reply to the emergency phone on a rotating basis.
· Working knowledge of technology.
Advocacy
The Boundary Spanner: Criminal Justice Liaison reports directly to the Director of Operations and is required to perform the following duties:
· Advocate for individuals with disabilities to get linked with community supports in an effort to reduce the number of people with disabilities involved in the criminal justice system.
· Advocate for people with disabilities and arrange for the person to have supports when they are released from jail or prison to reduce the likelihood of recidivism. These supports will include government benefits, safe and secure housing, and access to Community Mental Health services.
· Support people with disabilities to fulfill the requirements of their probation or parole.
· Support people to maintain financial security by assisting them to apply for benefits through the Social Security Administration as well as assisting the person in preserving and maintaining benefits.
· Support people to maximize and maintain benefits through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services including but not limited to Medicaid, Food Assistance Program, and Adult Home Help.
· Provide support to people to access services from Macomb County Community Mental Health (CMH) and assist in developing Person Centered Plans to help the people coordinate the supports and services needed to achieve their life goals.
· Work with people to identify and maintain safe and affordable housing, reliable transportation, and community employment.
· Train local probation, parole, and corrections officers to recognize signs of a disability and to whom to make appropriate referrals.
· Participate in all trainings as necessary
· Participate on all committees as assigned
· Participate in fundraising activities
· All other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
