POSITION TITLE: Bioinformatics Data Scientist
STANDARDIZED JOB TITLE: Data Scientist

Adopt in developing and deploying computational applications that model and classify features in genetic data related to oncology, inherited disorders and improve clinical assay operations.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bioinformatics Data Scientist is responsible for developing, supporting maintaining next generation (NGS pipelines as well as, managing the Web application development,
databases, and data engineering aspects in a Clinical / NGS Laboratory for
the Sonic Healthcare USA (SHUSA) ThyroSeq Laboratory. This full FTE position is an on-site position at the SHUSA-ThyroSeq Laboratory (760 Westchester Avenue, Rye Brook, NY, 10573).
Experience/Requirements:
Communicate effectively and clearly highly technical results and methods to non-technical audience. Interact cross-functionally with multi-disciplinary teams (Management, Clinical, Wet lab, Dry lab, IT) in a high throughput CLIA/CAP setting. Experience in SQL to aggregate data from the databases such as PostgreSQL, MsSQL, MySQL, etc. High programming proficiency in scripting languages Python, shell/bash, R, and compiler language (C, C++, C#). Ability to identify and apply statistical methods for Data Analysis & Visualization to make sense of big data. Ability to applying Data Engineering & Automation techniques in a Clinical / NGS Lab Solid background in software development on a Linux system and HPC environment. Maintain bioinformatics & clinical assay operations, implement updates. troubleshoot, and resolve daily bioinformatics tickets/issues/needs. Work on ways to automate manual processes and input/output throughout the workflow Work with instruments in the workflow, assist in connectivity and general troubleshooting. Understand NGS data analysis processes (Alignment/Variant Calling/Annotations/Interpretations of DNA and RNA variants and Gene Expression profiling) is a plus. Knowledgeable with front end web application development including dash board for analytical QC visualization will be a plus. Exposure to Django web framework will be a plus. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain the diverse group’s harmony.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluent with Python, R, shell/bash or similar programming languages & relational databases.
- Working knowledge in Linux, Windows and Mac operating systems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Advance degree holder, MS or Ph.D in a quantitative field such as Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science etc. with at least 3 years’ work experience in the same field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to solve practical problem in data analysis and interpretation.
- Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who can organize and prioritize workload.
- Strong background in statistics and mathematics.
- Must be proficient in scripting languages such as Python, R, shell/bash etc.
- Working knowledge of version control system such as git.
- Basic knowledge of high-throughput sequencing and genetic testing preferred. Must be able to work well with variety of laboratory personnel.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Familiarity with laboratory processes, policies, goals, and objectives.
- Ability to set and meet deadlines with high quality work.
