I. JOB TITLE: School-Based/Clinic Based Mental Health Therapist

II. RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Behavioral Health Services

III. GENERAL STATEMENT:

The School-Based/Clinic Based Mental Health Therapist performs a broad array of behavioral health activities in an independent manner while still under the general direction of a supervisor. Such activities usually include, but are not limited to case finding, screening/ assessment, programmatic intake, programmatic case management, supportive counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation with parents, administrators, educators and colleagues, education and training, and case-related administration.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide excellent consumer service through positive communication, cooperation, and professional behavior.

2. Build and maintain effective relationships with other agencies that also assist clients.

3. Assess the needs of clients, individual students, of classes, and of the entire student body and school community.

4. Develop, modify and implement program components to meet identified needs.

5. Respond to referrals from educators, parents, students, and primary care providers.

6. Conduct appropriate individual assessments through formal or informal evaluation techniques including intake, clinical interviews with clients and collaterals as appropriate, psychological tests as indicated. Refer for full psychological testing and psychiatric evaluation as indicated.

7. Provide supportive counseling/psychotherapy to reduce existing emotional disabilities, prevent the development of emotional disability and enhance individual family function.

8. Provide consultation and education services to enhance prevention and intervention activities for the community, parents, school staff, and colleagues. Consultation with school administration, teachers, and parents on behalf of individual students and to assist in modifications of classroom management and school policy which enhances the mental health of students, staff and families is an important component of this position.

9. Maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with school staff and the clinic while maintaining the confidentiality of client information.

10. Respond to emergency situations in a responsible and appropriate manner.

11. Function as a team member in the school setting without losing sight of the major role of the school as education and the therapist’s position as an invited guest of the school.

12. Function as lead staff for the team which may include this position and a mental health social worker, also as a member of the larger school-based services team.

13. Provide training for school staff and families within program areas.

14. Utilize supervision and implement prescribed activities.

15. Organize work in order to accomplish goals.

16. Maintain information received in a confidential manner.

17. Demonstrate initiative in prescribed duties.

18. Perform case-related administration such as chart management, filing, consumer information, and appointment setting.

19. Work within the prescribed policies and procedures of the hiring and supervising agency.

20. Other duties as assigned.

V. EVALUATED BY:

Evaluation will include self-evaluation and review by professional peers by performing chart audits annually. Evaluation will include a review of knowledge and techniques of mental health diagnosis and treatment, including knowledge of tests, referral patterns, patient rapport, and record maintenance. Also, Behavioral Health Director will complete an evaluation annually with input from the Medical Director.

VI. QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Professional Counseling from an accredited institution. Must be eligible for a professional license in the State of West Virginia and/or certified to provide therapy services.

A School-Based/Clinic-Based Mental Health Therapist needs to be able to function independently, use sound clinical judgment, and have the ability to prioritize tasks. The therapist will need to effectively form and maintain relationships with other therapists, social workers, the psychiatrist, and/or psychologist, referred sources, other service agencies, educators, parents, community members, and students.

She/he must demonstrate knowledge of:

· Basic Mental Health and Substance Abuse screening, diagnosis, and management.

· Normal and Abnormal child development

· Normal and Abnormal function of families

· Rural resources and how to access them

· Local, state, and federal regulations related to services, function of school systems, special education principals and practices, and the role of educators.

· Behavior management and assessment techniques.

Behavioral Health Therapists will provide assessment, psychotherapy, and counseling services as part of our behavioral health program. Applicants will work independently and collaboratively as a member of a Primary Care Team. Behavioral Health therapists will be utilized in our Health Centers and School-Based Centers.

Experience working with adults, families, children, and adolescents is preferred. Applicants must have a Master's Degree and West Virginia license (LPC, LGSW, LCSW, LICSW, or Psychologist).

Sign Bonus $5000 for LICSW/LPC, $2500 for LCSW/LGSW

Competitive salary ($43,000 to $80,000 dependent upon licensure/experience/performance)

The benefits package is offered. Benefits include health insurance, CEU stipends, paid leave (personal, vacation, sick, continuing education), clinical supervision, and possible loan repayment.
