Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks part-time Baristas and Café Assistants for the school café, The Fox Den located on the Washington, DC campus. The Fox Den cafe and store is a bustling center of community life at Sidwell Friends. Students, parents, faculty, and staff gather to enjoy an array of hot and cold beverages, including specialty lattes, snacks and pastries. The Fox Den also has a wide selection of school spirit wear and merchandise. The Fox Den is open daily from 7:30am – 5:45pm.

This position is part time, non-benefits eligible. We are seeking applicants for the morning (7:15am – 10:45am) and afternoon (2:00pm – 5:30pm). Additional hours and subbing opportunities are available as needed. We will consider candidates who have availability of 3 or more days during the specified time frames.

Daily responsibilities and requirements for Baristas and Café Assistants:

  • Ability to stand walk, and lift boxes up to 30 lbs.
  • Use of hands to reach, grip, turn and perform precision work.
    • Using your hands to operate an espresso machine, fold clothes and assist in the retail section of the store.
    • Baristas may be exposed to objects such as knifes and hot water.
  • Stock food, beverages, and fold clothing to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, following food safety guidelines.
  • The ability or willingness to learn how to craft specialty drinks.
  • The ability or willingness to learn how to operate a register and POS system.
  • Create a warm, and safe environment for students and faculty.
  • Work as part of a team providing excellent customer service.
  • Adhere to CDC/OCC current Covid guidelines and all COVID-19 protocols established by the Sidwell Friends School community.

Additional qualifications include effective communication skills, flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with students/customers. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required; however, if you are not CPR/AED certified you will have the opportunity to complete the course upon hire.

Successful candidates should be 18 years of age or older and have prior experience working with customers and/or students in addition to successfully completing all background checking requirements at the time of hire.
