Essential Functions:

  • Perform detailed structural characterization including protein primary sequence confirmation, sequence variant identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis of post-translational modifications (e.g. glycosylation and disulfide bonds) and charge variant analysis in support of Discovery, IND enabling studies, forced degradation and comparability studies.
  • Collaborate with AD team and cross-functional teams to support protein engineering, process development, and formulation studies.
  • Evaluate and implement new analytical approaches, automation, and software to improve the quality and efficiency of the characterization workflows and to solve problems encountered during drug development.
  • Author technical reports, protocols and manuscripts for publication; present at internal and external conferences.
  • Collaborate with Discovery small molecule team to conduct target characterization/mechanism studies.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and qualification of equipment (e.g., MS, HPLC, etc.) and software
  • Ensure execution of work assignments by laboratory staff to meet cycle times
  • Review peer's work

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, Master’s degree or PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
  • Previous industry experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job:
    • Associate Research Scientist: With a bachelor’s degree comparable to 6+ years, with a master’s degree comparable to 4+ years, with a PhD comparable to 2+ years.

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in protein mass spectrometry including LC-MS intact protein analysis, peptide mapping, and PTM characterization.
  • Expertise in protein charge variant analysis using cIEF instruments.
  • Basic statistical knowledge is required.
  • Experience with protein quantitation is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of cell biology, cancer biology is preferred.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team.
