The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) is seeking an experienced college administrator to serve as its next Associate Dean for Administration. As the college's Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, you will oversee the functions of the Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technologies, and Facilities, and ensure that the college operates efficiently and effectively.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage the college's administrative functions, including Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technologies, and Facilities, to ensure the smooth operation of the college.
  • Participate in strategic planning and executive decision-making, represent the college on university matters related to administration and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate progress on initiatives of the Dean, in collaboration with Associate and Assistant Deans, Department Chairs, and administrative directors.
  • Supervise college staff on matters of Cornell University policy and human resources.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate administrative policies, procedures, and systems in the college.
  • As a college officer, provide leadership within the broader Cornell Community.

We seek candidates who hold a master’s degree and more than seven years of experience at a senior level in administrative or management roles with substantial financial responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful candidates will demonstrate the following experience:

  • Resource management to deliver high-quality, effective services, and problem-solving, analytical approaches to decision-making, data management, reporting, and strategic planning.
  • Effective financial management, budget preparation, and fiscal operation management, preferably in higher education or the public sector.
  • Human resource management including developing organizational strategies to ensure staffing structure and levels are in line with organizational needs and motivating staff and managing all levels of performance.
  • Facilities operations including capital project management.
  • Demonstrated integrity, communication skills, diplomacy, ability to work collaboratively, sound judgment in handling confidential matters with tact and discretion, analytical and organizational skills, strong supervisory skills, and demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and affect change.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting organizational objectives through negotiation and consensus building with a wide, varied, and diverse constituency.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and well-being practices to business goals.

In addition, the following preferred qualifications would aid in the transition and onboarding of qualified candidates:

  • MBA
  • Successful experience of increasing responsibilities in a higher education/university setting.
  • Experience leading and managing a wide variety of responsibilities in multiple functional areas.
  • Awareness and appreciation of art, architecture, planning, real estate, and design practices and pedagogies.
