General Purpose of the Position:


The Assistant Project Manager position is primarily responsible for supporting across the project management team with the daily management, coordination and successful completion of construction projects to meet time and cost objectives with respect to contract administration, budgetary considerations, and scheduling.



Primary Responsibilities (Grouped by Key Result Areas)


  • Safety:
    • Maintain a working knowledge of industry standards for safety (OSHA & MSHA) and ensure all project operations follow these standards.
    • Assist Project Managers and Field Managers with ensuring all jobsite safety deliverables are complete.
    • Complete jobsite safety audit during all site visits.

  • Planning:
    • Fully understand Trident’s contractual obligation, all contract documents, & Client expectations.
    • Assist Project Manager with the initiation and development of the project plan and schedule.
    • Identify project risk and work to drive down their probability and impact.
    • Identify required vendors/contractors, negotiate, develop purchase agreements and change orders in compliance with corporate policies and procedur

  • Execution:
    • Ensure all POs, Subcontracts, Change Orders, Bills, Shipping Tickets, and Credit Card receipts are expeditiously provided to the accounting department in accordance with corporate polici
    • Maintain electronic project files and appropriate hard copy files. Ensure efficient organization of project folder on company server.
    • Receive, confirm, and record job-site deliverables via daily reports.
    • Assemble / maintain turnover documents and redline drawings.
    • Create, process and track client deliverables such as submittals, RFIs and change order requests.

  • Monitoring & Control:
    • Understand the project schedule and anticipate construction tasks to ensure necessary materials and equipment are accounted for and ready when needed.
    • Notify the Project Manager immediately if project costs, in any area of the job, are inappropriate or out-of-budget.

  • Weekly review of actual project cost vs. budgeted cost. Provide feedback to Project Manager and assist with issue resolve.
  • Assist Project Manager with documentation and progress measurement of the project execution plan.
  • Monitor construction through periodic site inspection and coordination with Field Operations to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget.
  • Track and maintain key contract performance dates/notices.

  • Client Satisfaction:
    • Create weekly progress reports outlining current project status for review and distribution by the Project Manager.
    • Effectively & proactively communicate with all stake holders on project status, activities, concerns and customer’s expectation
    • Participate in all client meetings, keep and distribute notes.

Ancillary Responsibilities

  • Support business development efforts across all industry types.
  • Support the estimating team with bid opportunities across several project types.

Additional Responsibilities and Behaviors:

  • Travel 50% of the time (local and out of state projects)
  • Act as site supervisor as needed
  • Utilize fully vetted and/or proven subcontractor and suppliers.
  • Ignore boundaries between jobs and departments if necessary to get the project done.
  • Utilize existing and develop new customer relationships to generate business.
  • 24-hour response to all customer requests.
  • Identify all potential legal problems and litigation potential regarding assigned projects and review with the Executive Team.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the project management function. Identify lessons learned and use those lessons to strengthen the team and to improve processes.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • On-site construction management experience, while not necessary, is preferred.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business; or experience as an assistant project manager/project engineer carrying out technical aspects of contract administration, project management, and technical construction problem solving
  • Understanding of all general construction trades
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction process, procurement, project costs / forecasting / estimating, scheduling and close-out
  • Must be computer literate with the standard Microsoft Office Suite of applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and MS Project
  • CAD, Bluebeam Revu PDF, SketchUp, and Procore Construction Management software experience preferred
  • Proficient at reading and understanding contract documents for construction projects
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential
  • Ability to present strategies, plans, findings and results in individual as well as group settings
  • Excellent attention to detail with emphasis placed on quality
  • Very organized with a systematic approach tasks to achieve accuracy and efficiency
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage diverse personalities
  • Professionally and technically competent
  • Analytical with the ability to examine issues from multiple viewpoints
