Assistant Network Administrator Job at North Reading Public Schools
North Reading Public Schools (NRPS) is seeking an Assistant Network Administrator to assist in the overall administration, maintenance, security, monitoring, and performance of district-wide networks, provide technical support, and implement related support systems to ensure optimal performance. In this position you will work under the Direction of the Director of Digital Learning and collaboratively with the Network Administrator, Data Specialist, and Digital Learning Specialists.This position is a 40 hour/week, five days/week, full year (52 weeks/year) position. Typical hours are 9:00 AM-5:00 PM with some weekend, evening, and emergency availability needed. Essential Duties
Data Systems* Manage and maintain multiple local and web-based user databases in collaboration with the Data Specialist and Network Administrator.
- Coordinate with Data Specialist, Network Administrator, and Director of Digital Learning to ensure critical data backups are performed and tested on a regular basis.
- Support a variety of application systems requiring cross-platform integration, importing/exporting of data, account credential creation, automation, interfacing, and related tasks. Proactively develop solutions as required for cross-platform operations.
- Provide technical, data entry, and management, support, and training for digital assessments (MCAS, WIDA, Synced Applications, and digital resources).
- Routinely update the district ticketing and support system to best support end users' requests and response time.
- Manage and administer enterprise email services, Google Enterprise, Chrome Device Management, web filters, and other application systems as assigned.
Networks* Work collaboratively with Network Administrator and independently to maintain and support the wide area network (WAN) and ensure departmental local area networks (LANs) are operational and efficient.
- Monitor and maintain network servers. Monitor system log files, disk space, and database systems running on servers for usage levels, patterns, and anomalies.
- Troubleshoot software and hardware errors and failures. Determine corrective and preventative measures to maintain servers at optimal levels. Repair hardware and update software as required.
- Effectively and routinely communicate to district stakeholders changes or updates to the network which will impact the access, function, or availability of district networks in a universal language.
- Manage and support routine maintenance of routers, switches, wireless access points, servers, computer hardware, digital signage, software, and general office equipment.
- Identify security issues, operating system incompatibilities, etc.
- Write programs and code to streamline and automate various processes.
- Effectively manage division staff, help desk high school student support, and college interns as assigned.
Infrastructure & Systems* Provide system administration and routine support for district phones, communication tools such as the website, NRPS app, digital signage, casting, digital media applications, and interactive devices.
- Install/upgrade and coordinate support for district technology software, email, and application related issues.
- Provide routine, accurate, and timely data entry to support technology inventory, parts, and resources which reflects updates of hardware, software, and digital assets.
- Develop technical solutions as required to manage technology assets.
Training & Support* Training and support the district community (students, staff, guardians, etc.) on various NRPS networks, hardware, and software.
- Provide timely in person and remote support for all end users. Routinely update the district knowledge base to reflect common solutions and best practices. Maintain consistent support records within district systems.
- Act as the District lead for the implementation, training, and advisement on Assistive Technology.
- Advise on refining policies and procedures related to use of technology across the district.
- Provide technical support for student, staff, and administrative needs related to data privacy and security reviews.
- Conduct technical training for staff and teachers as required.
- Troubleshoot and repair hardware and devices.
- Perform system maintenance and upgrades during off-peak/non-production hours so as to be less impactful to end-users.
- Manage external relationships/contacts with vendors and consultants in collaboration with the Network Administrator and Director of Digital Learning.
Other* Provide vision and leadership in the research, purchase, usage, and maintenance of district-wide networks, hardware, and software.
- Other duties as assigned.
