The Assistant Grower reports to the Head or Lead Section Grower. Candidate must have a desire to learn modern growing techniques in a large-scale greenhouse production facility. Position requires basic knowledge of plant growing, task management, and communication skills.
Previous experience in vegetative propagation techniques, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease management, or inventory control/quality control is a plus.

Essential Functions

• Assist growers with all production duties including irrigation, planting, fertilization, pest identification, monitoring and control, chemical application, and related duties.
• Perform all plant related duties from start to finish, paying close attention to the recipe of the crop’s production cycle.
• Assist with other greenhouse production duties including shipping, production, and maintenance.
• Assist in maintaining environmental controls to insure optimal plant health.
• Provide work direction and training to seasonal staff.
• Assist in applying pesticides to crops of responsibility
• Incorporate and utilize automation in the production and growing process.
• Implement and follow sound pest and disease management practices.
• (Winter Season) Assist with the supervision of Winter Product Assembly, including spruce tip pots, wreaths, and other winter décor.
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Ability to operate motorized and production equipment safely.

Education and/or Work experience requirements

• One year experience in horticultural production.
• Post-secondary degree or certificate in horticulture, agriculture, or related field preferred.
• Must have or be willing to obtain Pesticide Applicators license.

Work requirements

• Able and willing to work in all-weather types
• Able to stand/walk all day
• Comfortably lift 50 pounds regularly
