Summary of the Position:

The Assistant Controller will assist in directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. Candidate needs to be self-starting and work with very little supervision. Candidate must be able analyze financial results and translate them back to the department managers and provide actions to improve the performance of the business.

TARGETED ANNUALIZED SALARY - $105,000 - $120,000 (depending on experience)
Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and assist in directing the monthly close, monthly forecast, annual budget and other investment activities of all or part of the organization.
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, accounts payable, payroll and budgeting duties.
  • Develop, maintain, and publish meaningful business analysis to assist management in decision making and aiding company in achievement of goals and objectives including:
    • Sales and margin trends / forecasts
    • Product Line, Customer, Industry cost and margin analysis
    • Variance analysis to budget, FY and forecast for material, labor, and overhead
  • Producing and maintaining labor and overhead rates
  • Inventory valuation, turns and reserve analysis
  • Produce/track business key performance indicators
  • Ensure control over inventory through audit and support of cycle count program and annual physical inventories
  • Financial liaison as participant in lean events and support cost saving, margin enhancement activities
  • Support production and sales functions in attaining and measuring initiatives in cost reduction, margin enhancement and working capital improvement
  • Improve controls and business processes including defining, documenting, and implementing new policies as identified

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting and either CPA or CMA certifications preferred.
  • 5-10 years of related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Talent for efficient and creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to develop and utilize a functional system for tracking tasks; ability to create a schedule from a random list of tasks and comprehend the overall schedule impact or individual changes and identify schedule conflicts.
  • Possess decision making skills to appropriately handle requests, identify details needed to fill requests and / or get input from others, interpret priorities, balance depth of work and delivery date, determine task list, enlist appropriate resources, initiate workflow process(es), summarize results and communicate results.
  • Strong general computing skills such as MS Office ERP systems (Epicor preferred) and an expert knowledge of MS Excel for data manipulation and calculations required
  • Manage time effectively and strive to contain costs and reduce waste.
  • Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills – including ability to appropriately present technical information to all levels of the organization.
