Job Description Summary: We are seeking a talented and driven AI Machine Learning Scientist to join PayPal’s nascent Strategic Generative AI Unit. The Strategic Gen AI unit’s charter is to orchestrate and facilitate adoption of Gen AI techniques and algorithms across enterprise business use cases by providing technical consulting as well as conducting applied R&D to explore building in house generative AI capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms with a focus on NLP, LLMs, Prompt Engineering, and other NLP/NLU related techniques. In this role, you will be responsible for helping PayPal develop its own responsible Generative AI solutions and analyze the capabilities of external Generative AI model providers and applications. You will focus on ML techniques like identifying the right training and evaluation data, experimentation with model/API calls and in-house models, prompt engineering, prompt chaining, and more. You will work closely with the rest of the Strategic Generative AI Unit and our data science and engineering teams to create productivity-enhancing solutions across our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement machine learning algorithms to improve our Generative AI solutions focusing on NLP/LLM areasIdentify and build the best performant solutions/models to solve specific business problems
Conduct applied R&D to experiment with fine tuning of generative AI models for PayPal’s data sources and evaluate trade-offs in performance / cost vs equivalent vendor or open source capabilities
Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to optimize our Generative AI solutions to align with overall business goals
Stay up to date with the latest NLP/LLM generative AI techniques and trends
Present findings and recommendations to senior management
Requirements:
Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
Strong experience in machine learning algorithms with a focus on NLP/NLU, LLMs and Generative AI
Experience with programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch and NLP techniques and tools such as Hugging Face, OpenAI GPT models
Knowledge of statistical methods and data modeling
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RLHF and other NLP and NLU techniques in financial services.
Experience with cloud/big data technologies like GCP/AWS/Azure, Hadoop, Spark, Kubernetes.
Experience with Fintech and/or Financial Services industry
