About this role

The Counselor Hampstead Hospital establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and facilitates the maintenance of the therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit. The Counselor also provides basic patient care services and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

What you bring to the table

Education

• Associate/Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, or relevant mental health experience in lieu of a college degree.

Experience

• Previous experience within a psychiatric setting is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

• CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)
• CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire)

Compliance

• Corporate Compliance (within 2 months of hire)

What you will do

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Tasked with establishing a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients.
• Participate in the development of patient treatment programs.
• Develop and updates plans of care as assigned by treatment team.
• Provide therapeutic and activity groups for the patient.
• Assist the patient with routine activities of daily living.
• Conducts enhanced monitoring for patient safety, as assigned.
• Escorts patients, as necessary.
• Maintain current knowledge in the field of psychiatric care.
• Maintain an orderly work environment.
• Communicate appropriately with nursing staff, physicians, and outside referral agencies.
• Satisfactorily perform medical record and other documentation in accordance with all Joint Commission, State Licensing, and Medicare standards applicable.
• Promote the hospital culture of patient safety in a non-punitive atmosphere; immediately report medical errors and significant events to nurse in charge; participate in hospital safety training programs and Performance Improvement activities.
