1. Primary Communications Assistant to include operation of multi-line telephone console to direct calls to the appropriate person (utilizing transfers, pages and voice mail) and greeting/directing the public. Responsible for the opening and closing of the building. Works directly with Administration and under the supervision of the Business Manager to ensure coverage at all times for telephone and front desk reception.

2. Provide customer service to all incoming calls as well as meeting the needs of all visiting vendors, professionals, community individuals to include families and patients.

3. Provide Administrative support to the Business Manager and other agency departments based on work load and as directed by Business Manager.

4. Communicates with all Departments to coordinate consistent message and enhance customer service to all customers.

5. Coordinates and schedules meeting space at the discretion of the Business Manager.

6. Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently.

7. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance program performance.

8. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the team.

9. Maintains and promotes customer satisfaction.

10. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on a daily basis.

Job Specifications

  • Education: High school diploma or an equivalent. Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Licensure / Certifications: Not Applicable.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of phone skills, sales and/or customer service background.
  • Essential Technical / Motor Skills: Ability to speak clearly to communicate with patients, families, physicians and staff. Good command of the English language. Computer experience helpful.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, families, physicians and staff and other health professionals in order to effectively communicate and educate about hospice services and end-of-life care. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly self-motivated and self-disciplined. Flexible.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to move freely. Ability to work long hours and manage stressful situations. Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing at least 45 pounds or less in the assessment and implementation of patient care.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Must be able to read and understand directions, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to use sight to perform clerical duties. Ability to use hearing to communicate with staff and patients.
  • Exposure to Hazards: May encounter exposure to infectious disease or situations which present a potential threat to personal safety
  • Other - Hours of Work: Monday through Friday (7:30am-4:30pm or 8:30am – 5:30pm). May involve calls after hours or on weekends.
  • Population Served: All patient populations from infants through geriatric with life limiting illness.
