Under general direction, plans, organizes, and supervises the day-to-day activities of a work unit responsible for accounts payable or accounts receivable functions at LACOE; develops and updates relevant work procedures; and provides technical direction and guidance to internal and external LACOE customers.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:

  • Generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles, practices and methods and their application to governmental accounting
  • Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to accounting procedures and systems and records retention
  • Processes of business, banking, and/or other financial systems
  • Concepts and applications of automated data processing systems and equipment related to financial systems and accounting operations such as BEST Advantage System- Financial (FIN), Chrome River, and PeopleSoft
  • Principles and techniques of employee selection, supervision, training, and performance evaluation
  • Current office practices, procedures, terminology, equipment, and technology related to financial record keeping
  • Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and Experience

Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, public or business administration from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Three years of work experience in an accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, budget, or finance department, including one year of experience in a lead capacity.

Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.

Hybrid remote schedules may be available.

Selection Process

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Performance Examination and Structured Interview.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Veterans' Credit may be awarded for entry jobs.
