Position Summary:

The purpose of this job position is to direct the accounting functions and financial affairs of the organization including accounting, accounts payable, and billing and reimbursement using generally accepted accounting principles.

Duties and responsibilities*

Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the financial affairs of the organization under the direction of the Executive Director by establishing and maintaining an accounting system that accurately reflects the organizations income, operating costs, and financial condition.

Review the organizations financial objectives, policies, and procedures periodically and make recommendations to the Executive Director.

Develop and produce monthly and year-end financial statements and annual budgets. Present these to the Executive Director and assist that office in interpreting and utilizing the financial data.

Establish and maintain a system of accounts payable, to include invoicing, purchase orders, pay vouchers, check register, ledgers, etc., as necessary.

Develop and maintain a working relationship with all departments and assist them understanding accounting policies and procedures and help them develop and use financial data as appropriate.

Interpret and present the organizations accounting policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies, as necessary.
Assist Business Office and Billing Specialist with tasks and projects when needed.
Reconcile benefits for employees who have status changes to ensure proper billing.
Represent Markesan Resident Home at and participate in all required meetings including board of directors meetings as required by the Executive Director.

Review entries and maintain the general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, accounts analysis and reconciliation, closing books, setting up new accounts, etc., as necessary or instructed.

Prepare financial and statistical reports as necessary, and assist in performing data processing functions.

Assist the Executive Director in the preparation and review of an annual operating budget and cash flow projections.

Establish and maintain accounts receivable reporting including collection of delinquent accounts.

Maintain schedules for capital outlay and fixed asset depreciation.

Make recommendations for investment or placement of capital as appropriate.

Prepare financial records and assist outside auditing firm in preparation of cost reports for submission to authorized government agencies.

Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the long-term care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.

Follow established safety and sanitation regulations and cooperate to ensure that resident rights are maintained.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested by the Executive Director.

Educational Requirements*

Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting from an accredited college and two years experience in healthcare financial administration or any combination of experience, education, or training which would provide the knowledge required by this position. A CPA/CMA designation is preferred but not required.
Must have advanced experience with excel.

  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (weather, evacuation, post-disaster).
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other contaminates.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors.

  • Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of Markesan Resident Home, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 40 pounds to a minimum of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum of 12 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
