Are you interested in working with the largest asset-based drayage provider in the US? We are seeking a boots on the ground Operations Manager to join the team in Palatine, IL!

The Operations Manager will be aligned to our Carrier Sales and Account Management team at our Palatine office. This role will mentor and lead the Operational teams and manage all procurement functions. The individual in this role will also collaborate with customers and account managers to create solutions that meet service and cost expectations.

Essential Job Duties

  • Mentor and lead the Operations team; provide industry expertise, coaching, training, and support
  • Manage procurement-related activities for specific modes across multiple accounts
  • Help set the mode buying and leveraging strategy; develop key initiatives, best practices, and processes within the team
  • Participate in the interview process for new Operations team members
  • Assign duties, guide, train, and provide performance feedback to direct reports
  • Motivate direct reports through recognition of accomplishments
  • Monitor the Operation team’s attendance, productivity, and other performance expectations
  • Plan and monitor staffing schedules; adjust as needed to ensure adequate support for operational demands and business objectives
  • Plan for future labor needs in collaboration with senior leadership and Human Resources
  • Conduct staff meetings, review daily and weekly trends, performance, and work activities
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on developing programs for job training and professional development
  • Participate in performance evaluations
  • Act as a liaison between Sales and Operations; work cross-functionally to review pricing, market penetration and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Drive both revenue and margin growth across multiple verticals and modes; develop and maintain best business practices
  • Analyze operational reports to identify trends and recommend solutions to management
  • Provide coverage for operations when employees are absent
  • Accessible afterhours when additional support is needed

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of Transportation Logistics industry experience, in carrier procurement/operations
  • 2+ years of leadership experience
  • In-depth knowledge of carrier operations, including, FTL
  • Hands on experience with conflict resolution
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively supervise, coach, and influence employees
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong typing skills and technically savvy
  • Highly motivated, goal driven, and results oriented
  • Collaborative team player
  • Eager to learn and open to different methods of execution
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in carrier procurement/operations with an emphasis on carrier rate negotiations
  • 4+ years of leadership experience
