Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Writer/Editor 2 (Safety Basis Division) opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

Short term assignment. Part-time to start. Increase in document production anticipated up to 50% (20 hours/week)

Education
Typically has bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of experience or master's degree in English, journalism, technical communication, or a physical/social science.

Top three desired skills
Word - create/manipulate documents, PDF skills, Excel. Needs a personality to work with a variety of Engineers, variety of personalities.

Software knowledge requirements
Need to know Word (styling and references), Excel, Adobe/working fillable/expandable PDFs.

Summary
Plans, writes, and edits technical and administrative communication products e.g., reports, brochures, websites, proposals, procedures, manuals, proceedings, and training materials for both print and online/electronic publication. Specific duties include conducting communication needs assessments, interacting with customers to analyze and develop content, and advising customers on Lab publication policies and procedures.

This Writer/Editor is specific to Safety Basis Division [SBD] who creates and manages safety basis documents; ESS's, DSA's, TSR's, division documents/procedures and letters to DOE, DNFSB etc. [many more types]. This position will not create/write the documents, but will technically edit them following SBD templates, working with document owner/SME to ensure quality documents and 508 compliance. Direction is taken from the SBD Program Manager. This position is part time but as the 30ppy project progresses, it could become full time. This position can be remote.

Responsibilities
  • Supplement team manage prepare documents as deliverables.
  • Documents go to DOE for approval – editor needs knowledge of best practices.
  • Using templates to ensure compliance .
  • With with an SME, will be updating existing documents ESS, page changes, large TSA/DSR
  • Technical reviews with people in the field, submit documents through internal processes.
  • Go through documents to meet quality – will work with template standards, ensure documents look presentable, complete references and validation using Chicago Style manual.
  • Tech Editor works with SME to agree upon changes, track changing, version control.
