Wildlife Specialist (Aquatic Invasive Species) Job at UT Division

The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area at Bullfrog, UT. This appointment will last from approximately April 1 to December 31, 2021. Housing is provided.
Examples of Duties
The successful applicant will aid in implementing the Utah Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan, with particular attention given to preventing the spread of Quagga and Zebra Mussels in Utah’s waterways. A large portion of the job is in outreach and interdiction by which boaters will be educated about Quagga Mussels and what their role is in fighting this threat.
Duties include scheduling technicians, answering phone questions, onsite supervision, basic maintenance of equipment, data entry, inspecting and interviewing boaters exiting Lake Powell and using a high-pressure sprayer to decontaminate boats when needed. Housing is provided and the position can last through December 2021.
Job Requirements and Skills
Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license at the time of employment. Applicant must be able to work a flexible schedule, with weekends and holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, July 24, Labor Day, etc.) Mandatory. Applicant must be self-motivated, honest, able and willing to work outdoors in harsh conditions. Applicant must be able to work alone and within a team setting and get along with others as a successful candidate will be living with co-workers.
Preference may be given to “Watercraft Savvy” applicants with boating experience, or who are pursuing a degree in Biology, fisheries, Natural Resources or Criminal Justice. Basic mechanic aptitude is helpful. Prior supervisory experience is a plus. Knowledge of aquatic invasive species and Quagga mussels is preferred, but not required.
