Web Developer Job at VITALITY IO, Inc.
VITALITY IO, Inc. Salt Lake City, UT 84107
About Vitality and Why We Are Hiring?
When we started Vitality in 2013, we never imagined we would be the central software platform for smart buildings. Our goal is to reduce emissions worldwide to provide a better future for everyone. How we think this is possible through data. Our amazing software provides facility and energy managers with all the data they could possibly want to make actionable decisions about their energy footprint. Being a team member at Vitality means you have a hand in helping change the future.
We are looking for someone who is driven and ready to take our software platform to the next level.
What You Will Be Doing
Our development team is 4 people strong, and we frequently operate in cross-functional teams, so you’ll get to work with awesome people from all different roles in the company.
Regardless of their varied disciplines, all our developers have one thing in common: They are a joy to work with. You won’t find heated arguments and raised voices here. We all love to program and solve problems in creative ways, and we regularly take time to geek out and show each other something cool we built or found to make our lives easier.
And of course, as a developer, you’ll work closely with our Chief Product Officer. More importantly, our teams all welcome feedback and suggestions that we can implement during the development process and are happy to tweak an interaction if you tell them it will save you significant development effort.
You will also be Integrating with 3rd party APIs like Aggregation Providers, Payment Gateways, and Analytics Services. Helping improve our public and private APIs to make them easier for external and internal developers to use. Updating behavior or adding new UI components to our web app. Writing automated tests for new features or improving our existing test suites. Submitting and reviewing PRs in GitHub, and jumping on a Slack call to get an extra pair of eyes on a gnarly bug
You’re the right candidate if:
- You are an excellent developer that can adapt to new languages quickly.
- You write code that is easy for other programmers and your future self to understand and use.
- You have plenty of war stories to tell about the last time you launched a big SaaS application, or weathered a massive spike in load, or recovered from an outage.
- You are comfortable with JavaScript and have developed a user facing front-end with a web framework such as React, Ember, Vue, or Angular.
- You know your way around SQL and relational databases. If the database layer turns out to be the culprit behind an issue, it’s not a black box to you. (Experience with Postgres is a bonus.)
- You have an understanding of algorithms and data structures beyond arrays and “for loops.” That doesn’t mean you have to be a computer science PhD or even that you have to know “Big O” notation, but you should know when to use a Dictionary/Map, and why finding an element in a sorted array is faster than finding an element in an unsorted array.
- You have an understanding of the GIT process.
- Real world working knowledge in Ruby on Rails development.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design
- You have excellent debugging skills. You know how to find problems and how to architect apps so that problems are discoverable in the first place.
- Can work within a high stress environment calmly and effectively.
What We Offer and Why You Will Love Working Here
We run our company off of a KRA-based compensation. What are KRA’s you may be wondering? KEY RESULT AREA’s. We believe in giving you responsibilities and you taking those responsibilities and getting them done. We offer competitive salary packages. Health, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits. As well as a 401K retirement plan. Unlimited Paid Time Off and Sick Time. As long as your KRA’s are met, we don’t care when or where you work as long as stuff gets done. We still like to work in the office every day Monday-Friday, 8-5 but we don’t babysit or take roll. So if you need a work-from-home day take it. We will miss you but understand that it is needed sometimes. We also have several remote employees that never come into the office. If you don’t live in Utah and are interested in working for Vitality, we would be interested in interviewing you. We also give you all major holidays paid and some minor ones just for fun.
We have fun holiday parties and a summer get-together. We love to have fun and would like you to have fun while working here too.
If you are interested, please apply by sending us a cover letter explaining why you think you would be an awesome addition to the Vitality team. A resume is helpful but not as important as a cover letter.
