We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for a Full Time, Permanent, Truck Driver 1 position here at the beautiful Washington Veterans Home, located in scenic Port Orchard, Washington!

Please Note: The anticipated schedule for the position will be from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star.

As a Truck Driver 1 for our WA Veterans Home, you will Assist in loading and unloading residents on the state buses and other vehicles for travel. Ensure residents stay seated during transportation and attend to their needs. The overall goal is to provide safe and timely transportation for residents to medical appointments throughout the Puget sound area.

Duties

Some of what you'll be doing includes:


  • Operating transportation buses and vehicles; assisting with loading and unloading residents for travel.
  • Ensuring residents stay seated during transportation and attending their needs.
  • Accompanying residents to appointments when needed; waiting with residents and assisting with rescheduling appointments.
  • Assist the disabled as required by offering an arm, pushing wheelchairs.
  • Maintaining vehicles in a clean and sanitary condition; conducting vehicle inspections.
  • Communicate and interact frequently with residents, family members, supervisors, colleagues, coworkers, peers, professional medical care providers, it is essential that your conduct is professional and cooperative.
  • Wait with residents, to calm and comfort residents during a wait, and assist them to reschedule an appointment if necessary.

Qualifications

Required:


  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Must pass criminal history background screening and be free of felony convictions
  • A background will need to be completed every two years after hire
Desired:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Maintain safety and or infection control as related to medical assistance.
  • Lead and work directly with residents.
  • Understand and apply rules and written / oral instructions.
  • Prepare messages and simple reports.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Able to read and understand written instructions, directions, and procedures.
  • Make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Frequent lifting, kneeling, reaching, and pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending.
  • May be required to carry objects weighing over 80 pounds.
  • Able to push or pull with sufficient strength to safely move residents in wheelchairs, gurneys, or stretchers.
