City of Plattsburg, MO Plattsburg, MO 64477
WATER / WASTEWATER OPERATOR
The City of Plattsburg, Missouri (pop. 2,222) is accepting applications for a full-time Water / Wastewater Operator.
This position reports to the Water Treatment Supervisor and splits time between the wastewater treatment plant in Plattsburg and the water treatment plant in nearby Trimble, Missouri. This is a technical, blue-collar position, ideal for someone who is intelligent enough to learn the science behind water quality, chemistry, water distribution systems, and plant engineering, but well suited for someone who isn’t afraid to get his/her hands dirty maintaining equipment, keeping tanks clean, collecting samples, servicing pumps, and removing debris from bar screens. Working in both water and wastewater plants provides a variety in your work not normally experienced by operators who are assigned exclusively to one type of plant or the other. For entry-level applicants who want to begin a career with a City dedicated to your long-term growth and retention, this position will start out as a water / wastewater apprentice position, but we will provide you with the tools, training, and knowledge to work your way through the ranks, advancing in both responsibility level and pay. For applicants with experience, education, and/or certifications in a similar field, the City of Plattsburg recognizes the skills, experience, and training you bring to our organization and an appropriate position classification and pay scale will be assigned accordingly.
Some of our desired traits for this position include a good work ethic, the ability to successfully master several diverse fields, reliability, a positive attitude, self-motivation, and good decision-making skills. Our goal for this position is either to have a long-term employee who can eventually become a licensed Drinking Water Plant operator and Wastewater Treatment Plant operator or to obtain an experienced, licensed operator who can have a productive impact on plant operations from the start.
This can be an entry-level position or can accommodate someone with experience and/or education in a related field. Wages will depend heavily on experience, education, and certification, however entry-level hires will have the opportunity to increase their pay through time-in-service and obtaining licenses/certifications. Entry-level starting pay for this position is $14.32 per hour, while experienced, late-career candidates with water treatment and distribution licenses could earn in excess of $26 per hour.
Under normal circumstances, employee can choose between a 5-day workweek or 4 x 10-hour workweek. There will be times when work schedule will need to be altered to cover for other operators taking vacation, thus weekend shifts will be required a few times a year.
