We are Searching for an Experienced Water Treatment Specialist to provide services at the University of Iowa campus and hospital. This role will require interaction with Campus and Hospital personnel as well as the general public. You will be responsible for providing excellent Service Delivery and expertise, as well as representing ENGIE’s values and commitment to customer service in your interactions across campus.

What you’ll do:

  • Under the general direction of the Water Treatment Services Manager, or authorized representative, monitor, operate and maintain water treatment systems providing specialized finished water for meeting customers’ operational needs
  • Systems served include community water, high quality water, pools and spas, hot and cold building loops
  • Processes include water softening, filtration, reverse osmosis, deionization, distillation, and ultraviolet disinfection
  • Perform flushing and disinfection as required to put new construction piping and systems into service
  • Perform sampling and chemical treatment to meet NPDES permit discharge requirements
  • Conduct water quality sampling and record operational parameters to ensure quality water is delivered and identify maintenance needs to keep systems operating effectively and efficiently
  • Perform or coordinate equipment maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Collects and prepares water samples for tests to be performed by outside agencies, as required by law, including State Hygienic Laboratory, Iowa Department of Environmental Quality, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Iowa Water Plant Operation Certification Board, Iowa Department of Health, Iowa Department of Environmental Health
  • Performs and/or coordinates general maintenance and calibration of water treatment equipment, to maintain maximum performance of equipment and processes
  • Inputs data obtained from monitoring into computer-based systems for the purpose of determining and tracking the water quantity and quality produced and determining maintenance needs, including development of preventative maintenance schedules
  • Completes tasks as assigned and scheduled, maintaining accurate records of time and materials spent to provide services, utilizing the company’s work order management system
  • All other duties as assigned by their supervisor

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3 – 5 years of experience serving water treatment systems that include, but are not limited to: deionization, softening, reverse osmosis, disinfection, and de-chlorination
  • Certification by the State of Iowa as a Grade I, or higher, Certified Water Plant Operator
  • Basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing skills and experience are desirable
  • Possession of a valid Iowa Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures including tests for alkalinity, water hardness, stability index, free and total chlorine, total dissolved solids, pH, corrosion rates, phosphate, lead, copper, coliform bacteria, heterotrophic bacteria plate counts, and other water testing procedures
  • Knowledge of mathematics including English/Metric system conversion factors and formulas for area, volume, density, dosage, pressure, flow, detention time, chemical feed rates, and solution strength
  • Knowledge of chemistry including softening reactions, neutralization reactions, disinfection reactions, corrosion reactions, and other water treatment related processes
  • Knowledge of biology, microbiology, and human health including the life cycles, pathogenic characteristics, and water treatment disinfection strategies for algae, bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and other organisms
  • Knowledge of computers, instrumentation, and software systems for process analysis, supervisory control and data acquisition, data processing, and report generation
  • Knowledge of safety programs including confined space entry, falls, forklift, lockout, process safety and risk management, respirator, and chemical right to know
  • Knowledge of Iowa Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations for water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, recreational water use, backflow prevention, and related water systems
  • Skill with interpersonal relationships and the ability to work well with others in a professional manner.

  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to use a company computer, calculator
  • Could involve some lifting / up to 50 lbs
