ACCA is looking for an engaging and energetic leader to serve as our Volunteer Coordinator and grow our diverse and dedicated team of volunteers.
About Us: Founded in 1967, the Athens Community Council on Aging is a private, non-profit organization providing services to older adults and adults with disabilities in 26 counties of Northeast Georgia. Through innovative program and service delivery, ACCA provides opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to live and age well.
Our Story: Throughout ACCA’s history, we have offered vital services to older adults and adults with disabilities that meet the current and emerging needs of this population. ACCA must respond to the rapidly growing number of individuals in need of services while ensuring that the programs and services we provide remain innovative, relevant and meet the specific needs of older adults in Northeast Georgia.
An enthusiastic team of over 1,100 community members, students, corporate partners, and community groups help ACCA provide exceptional programming to those we serve. Whether it’s a retiree delivering Meals on Wheels, a student group harvesting fresh produce from our community garden, or friend of the agency helping at a fundraising event, ACCA’s volunteers play a huge role in helping us ensure older adults in our community age and live well.
Essential Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for individuals and groups interested in volunteering with ACCA, and guide them through enrollment, orientation and placement.
- Plan, implement and evaluate all facets of ACCA’s volunteer and RSVP programs in accordance with agency and funder policies.
- Develop, document and implement a comprehensive annual plan to recruit, retain and recognize volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers are placed in meaningful experiences with a clear understanding of how their service impacts the community.
- Recruit and manage volunteers for special events.
- Work with the Director of Development in the onboarding of student interns.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training programs, maintain positive team relationships.
Program Development
- Identify and pursue opportunities for older volunteers through RSVP placements within the agency and in partnership with outside agencies and organizations.
- Work with the Director of Development in the development and implementation of volunteer transportation initiatives, including: program management, and recruiting and enrolling volunteer drivers and administrative volunteers.
- Oversee the ACCA Fellows program, including the recruitment, enrollment, and placement of Fellows; identifying potential volunteer sites, and developing volunteer job descriptions; maintaining collaborative relationships with volunteer sites.
Community Outreach
- Develop strong networks within the local community, and work with the Outreach Coordinator to promote agency and program volunteer opportunities
- Grow and maintain cooperative working relationships with community organizations, agencies and RSVP stations.
- Contribute volunteer focused content for ACCA’s quarterly Connections magazine.
- Lead and participate in the implementation of volunteer workdays and National Days of Service on a local level, and represent ACCA in community-wide volunteer events
Essential Requirements:
- We stay busy but like to have fun! A great sense of humor is a must!
- This position works across all of our programs, so we need someone who is friendly and outgoing with the ability to quickly establish a rapport with a wide variety of people.
- An effective communicator who isn’t afraid of public speaking and has strong writing skills.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, and a minimum of two years related professional experience. Previous volunteer management experience preferred.
- Ability to use a computer with ease, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
Our Hiring Process & Timeline:
- We will receive and review resumes through December 23, 2022.
- We will begin scheduling interviews on January 11, 2023.
- In-person interviews will begin on January 16, 2023. If you are chosen for an in-person interview, we will ask for two work samples relevant to this position (ex: a process you created, writing sample or other relevant materials).
- If necessary, finalists will be invited to a second-round interview and we will make an offer shortly after.
- The selected candidate will start no later than February 6, 2023.
