Visual Art Teacher Job at Arlington Public Schools
POSITION GOALS: We are looking for an innovative arts educator who can inspire students to become life-long learners and creative risk-takers, and provide students with the technical skills and Studio Habits of Mind they need to realize their own creative vision in the fields of digital art, animation, photography, and filmmaking.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred
- Massachusetts Licensure for Secondary Art Education required
- Previous successful experience teaching students in a multicultural setting is preferred
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach high school visual arts courses with concentrations in some of the following fields: Animation, Filmmaking, Digital Photography, and Digital Art.
- Employ instructional methods that both teach discrete skills and promote the development of Studio Habits of Mind such as Envisioning, Expression, Risk Taking and Collaboration.
- Demonstrate artistic skill in a wide variety of media, including animation (digital and traditional), still digital art, photography and/or filmmaking.
- Demonstrate experience in use of software and apps such as Tahoma 2D Animation, Procreate, Rough Animator, and the Adobe Creative Suite preferred
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Demonstrate flexibility and compassion, while maintaining high expectations for student achievement
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
- Collaborate with school faculty to develop interdisciplinary curricula
- Stay abreast of trends in the contemporary visual arts world and work to connect students to the local arts community
- Organize and participate in exhibitions of student work on and off campus
- Contribute to departmental and school-wide curriculum projects and other initiatives
- Meet professional obligations concerning collaboration with peers, punctuality, attendance, organization, and routine duties
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: Arlington Education Association Bargaining Unit Position
REPORTS TO: K-12 Visual Arts Director (primary) and building principals
SALARY: Per the Arlington Education Association Contract
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Arlington Education Association Contract. The K-12 Visual Arts Director will complete evaluations with support from the building principals.
