The mission of New York Junior Tennis & Learning is to develop the character of young people through tennis and education for a lifetime of success on and off the court. Since 1971, NYJTL has changed lives through tennis, education, healthy living, and character development programs. Today, it is the largest youth tennis and education non-profit in the nation, reaching more than 85,000 K-12 New York City youth.
NYJTL provides after school programming in approximately 30 schools and community tennis programming at approximately 40 sites throughout New York City in the summer months and at additional sites that operate during the school year. In addition, NYJTL designed, funded (with NYC), built and operates the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning, at which it provides free and commercial tennis programming year-round as well as life skills, character development and healthy living lessons. Position Summary:
The Vice President of Development will spearhead the management, growth, and diversification of a multi-faceted and effective development program. S/he will work closely with the CEO and board to oversee an annual budget of $20 million raised from a variety of sources, including governments, individuals, corporations, foundations, special events, and community partners. The Vice President of Development will be a strategic, creative thinker and fundraiser, overseeing NYJTL's presence in its served communities. This is an ideal opportunity for a proven entrepreneurial nonprofit leader who is passionate about building financial support for an organization committed to addressing youth education and tennis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Fundraising
- Collaborate with the board and executive management staff to create and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy designed at achieving budgeted long-term goals
- Lead the research, prospecting, cultivation and solicitation of revenue from diverse sources: individuals, planned giving, corporations, foundation grants, community sponsorships
- Nurture existing relationships with board members, public and private partners, and other key stakeholders
- Oversee the utilization and enhancement of the Raiser's Edge donor database/CRM system
- Direct the planning and execution of major fundraising events (e.g., annual gala, tournaments)
- Develop metrics and reports to enable staff and the board to monitor development progress
- Collaborate with NYJTL Next, young professionals’ group, to support network growth and impact
- Oversee general department activities: maintaining documentation, gift acknowledgement processes, reconciliation of gift records with accounting records
- Supervise staff and support their professional growth (3 positions)
B. Marketing & Public Relations
- Manage the organization’s digital platforms including social media, e-mail marketing campaigns, and websites (NYJTL, Cary Leeds Center, Annual Gala)
- Drive external communications to supporters, donors and community partners through press releases, print materials, social media alerts
- Oversee the organization’s photo and video assets, swag/apparel, promotional materials, other collateral
- Cultivate and manage volunteer recruitment, retention, and activation
- Craft and publish internal newsletters, annual reports
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years’ progressive experience in development/fundraising, grant writing, and project management
- Proven track record of success with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing fundraising projects and events involving diverse participants and objectives
- History of successful engagement of board of directors
- Deep knowledge of fundraising databases or CRM platforms; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Technologically savvy and comfortable using social media and other online platforms
- Excellent interpersonal and written/spoken communication skills
- Commitment to community service, youth development and education; interest in tennis a big plus
- Hands-on approach to work execution
