Who We're Looking For

The Vice President of Marketing leads the development and execution of the organization’s marketing strategy and is accountable for the daily operations of a full-service Marketing Department. This position has oversight and responsibility for all marketing and brand initiatives including brand and product marketing, internal and external communications, website, agency partnerships, social media, and marketing operations which are deployed to achieve the credit union’s goals and objectives for growth, member service, profitability and visibility. The individual must ensure all messaging and positioning are consistently aligned with the corporate direction.

Strategic thinking is foundational to all aspects of the role. Collaboration with external and internal partners is an integral component of successful execution of the marketing plan.


  • Lead multiple strategic initiatives at once, while being hands-on and diving deep into specific analyses as required. Be a thought leader in the credit union on all topics involving industry trends, marketing data, analysis, and strategy.
  • Lead initiatives that effectively convey AFCU’s differentiation in the market based on a thorough understanding of the needs of its members and the competitive landscape.
  • Fully understand the credit union industry and specifically AFCU’s business, its opportunities, and the market dynamics that impact the credit union.
  • Lead the overall implementation of the marketing plan for AFCU, leveraging data analytics to create, scale and measure data-driven prospect and member marketing strategies. Create omni-channel marketing strategies that drive demand creation and lead generation to acquire new members, achieve sales goals, and increase brand awareness and consistency in new markets.
  • Champion innovation in the marketing space and continually assess the overall marketing landscape to identify emerging trends and potential partners or solutions.
  • Prepare the annual marketing budget for submission to Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for day-to-day review and approval of invoices and budget tracking. Ensure Senior Leadership is aware of and approves the deployment of the budget, including any unbudgeted overages.
  • Research market trends, consumer sentiment, the financial services industry, product and pricing trends and the regulatory environment to identify opportunities for the credit union.
  • Drive operational excellence for the Marketing department. Empower the team to grow and thrive. Provide ongoing professional growth opportunities for staff so their skills and capabilities remain consistent with the changing landscape within the financial services industry and AFCU.
  • Oversee management of key marketing vendors and affiliates who provide production, advertising placement, media placement, digital and direct marketing services, SaaS providers and more.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to set department goals. Support the Marketing Manager’s role to assign, monitor and review the work of marketing staff to ensure completion of goals and responsibilities.
  • As needed, represent the organization to our community, partners, strategic alliances and vendors. Attends the credit union’s special events and various community events as well as occasional local, state and/or national credit union industry meetings.
  • Maintain industry knowledge and professional relationships by attending marketing and/or credit union professional group functions and educational seminars, reading industry publications and developing industry specific professional networks.
  • Adhere to all credit union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Participates in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, mandatory annual training and demonstrate attained knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field, master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of experience leading a multifaceted team in a fast-paced organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media, online communications, inbound and outbound marketing, research techniques, budgeting management, campaign planning, and product management.
  • Ability to review data, interpret results, and create actionable and measurable strategies.
  • Experience with new product/program launches and developing go-to-market launch plans.
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience facilitating diverse work teams on enterprise-level projects.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet project deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential with the ability to create high level, professional internal and external communications.
  • The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency. Experience with, or knowledge of, Adobe Creative Suite, HubSpot and/or Asana are a plus.
