Job Summary
This 12-month, grant-funded unlicensed counselor position will work within Student Counseling Services ( SCS ). SCS offers an ever-increasing diverse environment, serving enrolled Radford University students and educating them in ways to develop themselves personally, educationally, and vocationally as well as to enhance their overall mental well-being. This position will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and overall clinical outreach/educational services to the student community. Responsibilities include intake, assessment, time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, outreach, consultation, and crisis intervention. This position will also be responsible for collaborating with colleagues throughout the college and contributing to departmental, student services, retention, and college growth. A Virginia Board of Counseling Approved Supervisor will provide free, on-site licensure supervision for this position and the individual hired.
This is a restricted position with an expected end date of 11/07/2024.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must be immediately license-eligible as a licensed professional counselor ( LPC ) in the state of Virginia and demonstrate some experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment, and group therapy. Must possess working knowledge of counseling theory and techniques as well as knowledge of electronic health records systems. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to appropriately assess and intervene in crisis situations as well as work collaboratively with colleagues. Candidates must demonstrate multicultural competency and demonstrate the ability to provide services that are equitable with an awareness to cultural differences. Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of professional ethics and an understanding of how to apply those ethics to current work. Must have basic understanding of the developmental issues relevant to college-age students. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must demonstrate the ability to be flexible and handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously as well as work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior professional experience working in the mental health field either at college/university counseling or community-based setting.
