Job Description Summary

The Taniguchi Lab is seeking a motivated and reliable candidate to fill a full-time lab research technician position in the Department of Neuroscience, at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Taniguchi lab studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of psychiatric disorders such as depression or substance use disorders using a preclinical animal model.

The successful candidate has to be a good lab citizen with enthusiasm for science. Laboratory experience is preferred, but not necessary. In this role, the person will be responsible for rodent behavioral testing and molecular biology experiments.

Job Description

The Taniguchi Lab is seeking a motivated and reliable candidate to fill a full-time lab research technician position in the Department of Neuroscience, at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Taniguchi lab studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of psychiatric disorders such as depression or substance use disorders using a preclinical animal model.

The successful candidate has to be a good lab citizen with enthusiasm for science. Laboratory experience is preferred, but not necessary. In this role, the person will be responsible for rodent behavioral testing and molecular biology experiments.

Job Duties:

  • Conducting animal behavior assays, including exposing them to chronic stressful environments and/or drugs to examine the stress- and drug-related behavioral phenotypes. And collecting brain and other tissue samples from rodents. 35%.

  • Molecular biology experiments, including gene expression analysis (qPCR), staining brain tissue(Immunohistochemistry), and developing gene and protein manipulation viral constructs with PCR and restriction enzymes. 35%

  • Collecting data, analyzing data, discussion, making records of experiments, and working with other lab members to help with any difficulties in running assays. 20%

  • Laboratory maintenance, including supplying the experimental items and purchasing experimental items: 10%

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma and two years journey-level technical experience in a related laboratory setting. A bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.
