Our Small Commercial New Business team is currently seeking an Underwriting Manager for the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic team.

This is a full time, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Underwriting Manager will manage the New Business Underwriters across the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic Region. They will assist, and are key thought partners in developing regional strategy, maintaining profitability of the book, and assisting with agency management. The Manager is expected to develop underwriting talent, including Team Leads.

The Manager will foster an environment of collaboration in pursuit of common goals. Inspires, motivates, and guides others. Encourages and facilitates cooperation within the organization and with client groups. Fosters commitment, team spirit, pride, and trust.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Be a team builder - Build, foster and maintain productive positive relationships with team. Focused on development of staff. Builds internal and external network and uses influencing skills to achieve team goals.
  • Be able to build and maintain close working relationships with Agents, UTs, SCSMs, and New Business UWs, demonstrating strong relationship building, teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility: Takes ideas different from own seriously; share responsibility and collaborate with others.
  • Continuously seek to improve sales and technical skills through effective coaching, training and development of current staff, and recruitment of industry talent when needed.
  • The Manager develops and coaches their underwriters on technical underwriting topics, as well as agency management strategies, and delivery of difficult messages.
  • The Manager demonstrates the ability to be professionally demanding with agents and can develop this talent in others.
  • Strong working relationships with critical constituents – including RVP, RSD, Operations Leadership, and New/ Renewal partners.
  • Participate in State Management, including playbook development, rate reviews, and development of underwriting strategy.
  • Set underwriters goals and development plans aligned with business strategy and individual development needs. Conducts annual performance reviews based upon these goals.
  • Ability to clearly articulate UW strategy and align to direct reports to show impact.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 8+ years of applicable underwriting experience
  • CPCU designation preferred or currently being pursued
  • Demonstrate Self-Awareness, accept feedback well and proactively focus on personal development
