What You Will Do:

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision and/or direction of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, monitors patient care activities and the environment to maintain the therapeutic milieu and safety for an adult population of psychiatrically ill patients on the behavioral health unit. Patients range from age 18 to geriatric.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education & Training: Must have current knowledge of psychological theory and/or related behavioral health theory. AA or Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling or related field or experience in the behavioral health field in lieu of degree. Current BLS required.

Work Orientation & Experience: Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred. Must complete management of aggressive behavior (MOAB) courses provided by ERDD.

Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) read, write and comprehend medical and psychiatric terminology; b) demonstrates maturity, tact, judgement and sensitivity to people; c) responds to psychiatric emergency situations appropriately utilizing MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior); d) effectively convey verbal and written information; e) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; f) follow directions; e) understands and respects importance of patient privacy and confidentiality; f) organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities; g) develops and promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow health team members, physicians, intra and inter-departments, hospital and nursing administration; h) comply with OSHA standards.
