POSITION SUMMARY: Provides specialized sports programming to the YMCA Afterschool program at the Ogden YMCA Activity Center and various Afterschool program sites across New Hanover County. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
POSITION TYPE: Part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position
WAGE RANGE: $12.08 - $15.10/hour depending on qualifications and roles selected for. Referees earn between $15 - $30 per game.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Sports Program Workers are responsible for the day-to-day activities in providing sports to our community.
Duties will include Working with children ages 2 to 17.
Working with Adult Program participants.
Coaching: Follow practice guidelines that ensure kids are active and having fun.
Referee: Referee games U8 & below and ARs at the U12 & above level.
Field Maintenance: mowing (must be 18), raking, painting lines and filling in low spots.
Field Monitor: Ensure the safety of our program participants and help coaches in need.
Concessions: Working the snack bar, including sales, inventory and clean-up.
Away events: School functions, fund raisers, of site clinics and sales.
Drive Little Bus: Must be 21 with a valid Driver’s License.
Cleaning: Set-up, tear down, collection of equipment and securing at the end of the day.
Administration: Answering phone, light office duties & data entry.
Sports Site Lead duties will include:
USSF Certified “F” or higher for coaches working with U8 and above.
USSF Certified “E” or higher for coaches working with U12 and above.
USSF Certified Referee with an active Licenses and ability to train, hire and improve referees.
Program Coordinator will need the skills to complete director’s task in their absence.
Offsite Program/Event Coordinator will need the skills to run a program with the director offsite.
Sports Referee duties will include:
USSF Certified Referee with an active Licenses of grade 8 or higher.
Assigned games for USSF Certified Referees will be paid the following per game fee:
U12+ (SREFONE): $30/game
U12+ Assistants (SREFS): $15/game
U10 (SREFTWO): $20/game
U8 and under (SREFTHRE): $12/Hourly
Certified staff rate is only earned when refereeing assigned shifts and lead staff rate is only earned when coaching or refereeing scheduled/assigned shifts. If you are serving as general program/field support, you will be considered a Soccer Program Worker and earning the soccer program worker rate.
This is an entry level position and is under direction of the Athletics Director and consistent with the Mission of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Basic understanding of organizational skills, public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Desire and ability to work with and supervise volunteers, program participants and other YMCA employees as needed.
- Ability to work unsupervised and stay on task.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
- Complete certification in First Aid, Infant/Child CPR and Adult CPR within 60 days.
- Complete assigned training certifications upon request and completed on time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must enjoy working with kids.
- High School Graduate or at least 16 years of age and attending school.
- One year work or participant experience in a sports related organization or activity preferred.
- Must be able to work within the hours of program participation.
- Ability to follow and inforce rules, guidelines, policies and procedures set by the organization.
- Must have dependable transportation.
