Job Description:

This position will support Primary Care Departments: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in an on-site telephone triage position.

Accountabilities / Duties

Conducts in clinic and phone triage of patients. Makes appropriate recommendations for care utilizing approved standing orders and protocols. Uses critical thinking for prescription refills, medication titration and home treatment; Works within the RN scope of practice. Assists patients with scheduling acute and/or routine appointments, educates patients regarding abnormal test results and/or medical conditions, and explains medical terms and procedures. Demonstrates independent critical thinking in all departments and/or: urgent situations, conscious sedation, assisting with procedures, giving work direction and prioritizing work.

Required Qualifications Education:
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure for MN and WI.
  • Current BLS certification required, ACLS preferred

Skills required:
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
  • Excellent customer service skills; tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions with patients/ families/clinic staff members. Demonstrate compassion and caring in all interactions.
  • Ability to interact positively with people from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Understanding of patient education needs, able to effectively share information with patients, family members and clinic staff as needed.
  • Ability to learn, retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks. Remain calm in stressful situations.

Experience Required:
  • Minimum equivalent of two years recent nursing experience in ambulatory care or equivalent one year recent experience in an acute care setting preferred. The experience requirement will be up to the discretion of the nursing supervisor.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, regulations and practices

Computer proficiency:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical software (Epic preferred)
