As a Transportation Case Manager, you will be primarily responsible for assisting case managers or other designated individuals by providing transportation for refugees and immigrants. The case manager will be responsible to create and facilitate culturally and linguistically appropriate transportation training programs for clients. The Transportation Case Manager will also coordinate the transportation schedule for appointments and trainings. This position is expected to help refugees navigating different transportation systems and supports required for successful integration in the United States.
This position is expected to function effectively with regular supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide culturally sensitive case management services to refugee clients during the defined timeframe from their arrival to the United States;
- Complete client intake and assessment to define goals and action steps necessary for attaining transportation self-sufficiency and addressing client-perceived issues and needs;
- Provide comprehensive case management with clients to encourage motivation, address barriers to transportation self-sufficiency, and make linkages with community resources to address their various needs;
- Maintain client case files including eligibility, intake, assessment, goal progression, and services assisted;
- Develop and facilitate general transportation trainings, teaching clients the necessary skills to become self-sufficient. Work with trainers on culturally and English language level appropriate curriculum.
- Coordinate schedules of classes, client lists, room assignments, interpretation, trainers, volunteers, interns, and all necessary resources with assistance by the Transportation Program Supervisor. Communicate details of upcoming classes clearly and timely to the transportation team, trainers, interpreters, and case managers.
- Develop and administer pre/post class tests to determine client’s knowledge attainment of covered topics.
- Schedule and monitor client appointments for transportation specialists;
- Interpret and translate (or access a translator) for group and individual training or meetings at community agencies;
- Report problems that impede efficient and timely transportation to case manager and/or supervisor;
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisor to consult on cases and to review case plan and direction;
- Maintain and coordinate the transportation schedule;
- Connect with local training programs to seek out additional training opportunities for clients.
- Research and communicate with refugee training programs across the country to obtain ideas and resources.
- Assist with file audits and small item purchases;
- Gather, translate (if needed), and distribute information regarding medical, legal, social services, and other support services available for refugees and immigrants in Kent & Ottawa counties and surrounding communities;
- Attend trainings as required by supervisor;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences and humanities, teaching, or other related field from an accredited college, preferred;
- Business or social work experience.
- Teaching or training experience desired.
- Bi-lingual Preferred: Dari or Pashto language skills preferred;
- Must be at least 21 years of age to operate a vehicle on behalf of the agency;
- Active motor vehicle license and maintain a reliable vehicle with adequate insurance coverage;
- Good organizational and communication skills;
- Sensitivity in communicating and developing cross-cultural relationships;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and exercise high level of confidentiality;
- Work flexible hours to accommodate meetings with clients during non-traditional hours;
- Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions;
- Active motor vehicle license and maintain a reliable vehicle with adequate insurance coverage;
- Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
