Job Summary and Qualifications
The Transport Paramedic will operate on the HCA Florida West Hospital EMS Transport Services’ Team. The primary duty of the Transport Paramedic will be the safe and effective treatment and transport of HCA Florida West Hospital patients on the HCA Florida West Hospital EMS Transport Services’ ambulance. The Transport Paramedic will respond to EMS Call-Center requests, prioritize patient care, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately.
Essential Functions

Ensures the readiness of HCA Florida West Hospital EMS ambulances for service. Performs checks on ambulance mechanical systems and all included medical equipment to verify full and safe working condition. Completes daily supply check-offs, checks for dated equipment expiration, and stocks as appropriate. Maintains an aesthetically clean and safe ambulance and associated work area. Reports all issues of ambulance readiness to the Chief of EMS Operations immediately.

Remains available to render BLS and/or ALS mutual aid care to other agencies, mass casualty events, and declared disasters as outlined in Florida Statute Ch. 401.

Provides care for patients pursuant to the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support guidelines outlined in F.S. 401.25. Operates within Medical Protocols established by the HCA Florida West Hospital EMS Medical Director.

Operates HCA Florida West Hospital EMS ambulance in accordance with Emergency Vehicle Operations training. Maintains safety and control of the ambulance at all times, through the use of appropriate speed, braking, and cornering techniques. Applies the practice of “due regard” at all times, and follows all State and local regulations on emergency equipment. Meets all current requirements of Chapter 64E-2 of the Florida Administrative Code

Demonstrates knowledge and application of intermediate patient care, to include vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiac monitoring, 12 lead EKG, setting up intravenous fluids, insert/discontinue IVs/IOs, perform CPR, insert Foley catheter, obtain clean catch urine samples and transport patients.

Answer and receive patient report from EMS on radio (not allowed to give or take orders over radio)

Receive EMS hand off reports at facility

Maintains competence in documentation

Utilize SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for communication
- ·
Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives
- ·
Clean stretchers, closets, and cabinets as appropriate.
- ·
As a crisis prevention intervention trained staff member, responds appropriately to a manpower request.
- ·
Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medial error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
- ·
Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education, training, and competency assessments.
- ·
Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.

Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.

Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.

What qualifications you will need:
Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Services/Paramedic or a Certificate of program completion in Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic)
1 years of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital.
Paramedic - Currently licensed as a Paramedic per state requirements in accordance with law and regulation
BLS or BCLS – American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire
ALS or ACLS – American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
PALS – American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
CPI required within 90 days of hire
EVOC-Emergency Vehicle Operations Course completion certificate or equivalent
FEMA-100, 200, 700, 800
ITLS – International Trauma Life Support provider card
