Trades Apprentice Job at Northern Virginia Community College
This position assists Trades Tech with general installations, minor maintenance and repairs. This position will assist with repairs of some electrical and carpentry to include drywall work on campus buildings.
Duties and Tasks:
- Assisting Trades Technician with minor installations, maintenance and repairs of plumbing fixtures, systems, equipment, and the fire extinguisher program on campus.
- Assist with Ordering of equipment, parts, and supplies.
- To include snow removal and any other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Perform minor maintenance work and have the ability and knowledge to make repairs to building systems. This includes but not limited to basic electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, mechanical and carpentry repairs, and perform general landscaping. support emergency operations.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of principles and best practices of maintenance.
- Knowledge of aspects of heating and plumbing operations.
- Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment.
- Ability to work in hot and cold weather for extended periods of time.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform manual labor and to lift 75 pounds when needed
- Ability to work at heights using ladders
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.
- Detail Oriented.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Skilled in the use of general maintenance tools and equipment
- Possesses critical thinking skills.
- Possesses good physical strength.
- Possesses good communication skills.
- Knowledge of Fire Sprinklers Systems
- Team Player
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and good driving record.
- Experience performing general maintenance work.
- Participation from a High school trades program
