JOB DESCRIPTION

THRIFT STORE SALES ASSOCIATE

General Statement of Duties: Operates the cash register. Sorts, evaluates, prices and sells incoming merchandise.

Supervision Received: Works under general direction from the Thrift Store Manager.

Supervision Exercised: No supervisory duties required.

Examples of Duties: (Any one position may not include all the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all that may be found in this job.)

Operates the cash register. May reconcile the daily cash register receipts. May prepare and make bank deposits.

Sorts and evaluates incoming merchandise for sale in the SVDP Thrift Store.

Researches, prices and sells merchandise.

Executes merchandising strategies, including creating visual merchandise displays.

Responds to customer inquiries and special requests.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of retail sales. General knowledge of pricing and stocking incoming merchandise. Knowledge of quality standards for accepting and stocking new and used merchandise. General knowledge of customer service practices. Basic knowledge of mathematics. Strong skills utilizing a cash register. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interact diplomatically with a variety of individuals on all levels. Ability to research, analyze and price products. Ability to work independently following general directions. Ability to identify and resolve moderate issues. Aptitude for detail and accuracy.

Experience: One year retail sales experience, including operating a cash register.

Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Retail Management. Previous Thrift Store sales experience.
