As per the National Industrial Security Program (NISP), the Security Guard will work under the direction of the NMSU/PSL Facility Security Officer (FSO) in maintaining the facility security program. The Security Guard will remain active while on duty to ensure the facility is patrolled and protected on a constant basis. Will patrol assigned areas by walking, sitting or stand post to watch for suspicious persons and/or activities. Can assist in special projects, clerical, and filing within the PSL Security Office. Other duties are also performed, but not limited to: Protect national security information and assets as per the classified contracts performed at the NMSU Physical Science Laboratory. Will guard PSL property against fire, theft and illegal entry and will also keep a watch for any building anomalies or activities. In addition, the Security Guard will patrol the commercial guard gate in the Anderson Hall compound for access control to commercial carriers and customers for business related shipping/receiving access.
Classification Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for protecting organization premises and property. On a routine basis, inspects grounds to ensure security requirements are met. May be required to enforce parking regulations and report fire and safety hazards. Reports atypical situations to management. May use electronic surveillance equipment. Requires the ability to react quickly in sensitive situations. Frequently reports to a security supervisor or a security manager.
Classification Standard Duties
Escort individuals to/from campus locations when no indication of potential violence. Identify and report unsafe conditions, to include fires, facility damage, inoperable safety equipment, etc. Activate alarm(s) as necessary. Prepare and submit standardized reports. Patrol through designated areas (inside and/or outside; on foot or with a vehicle). Check/verify buildings are secure. Observe and report suspicious behavior. Assist in facility evacuations. Monitor or review video camera footage (no administrative rights). Request assistance from police and/or higher level security personnel. Provide information to individuals (e.g., directions, general campus information, etc.). Safely operate motor vehicles, to include providing rides to students, employees, or visitors. Lock doors and arm alarm systems as needed. Perform miscellaneous security-related duties as assigned
Knowledge
Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle.Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, laws, regulations and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules.
