As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will be directly involved in the development and delivery of engine systems supporting a variety of customers and customer needs. You will be involved in the various lifecycles of engine development, including requirements development and decomposition, technical trade study support, risk management, verification planning and completion, and a myriad of other systems engineering-related activities. These responsibilities will require a wide application of sophisticated systems engineering principles, theories and concepts plus a solid understanding of other related subject areas. In this role, you will assist the Blue Engines team with coordination and planning and will participate in process improvement activities. You will adopt and advocate for system engineering and integration practices across fields and teams in areas of system analysis, design, or integrated testing. Responsibilities:
Support the development of Blue Engine propulsion products as a Systems Engineer. You will participate and guide system design and development for Blue engines and test facilities at all stages of development lifecycle, beginning with requirements capture and flow-down, through preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification, certification, and delivery. You will carry out systems engineering activities in accordance with system engineering standards and practices. Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Perform technical management of requirements, system & subsystem interfaces, technical risk, configuration, technical data, technical assessment, and decisions
  • Provide product integration, develop verification plans, and review validation records to ensure the appropriate rigor is met
  • Ensure all aspects of the system are working to the correct configuration including drawings, interface control documents, and the design description documents
You will facilitate Systems Engineering artifacts and deliverables for gated reviews, develop and mature Concept of Operations documents, and lead engine level trade studies with techncial oversight.
You will need to be assertive, confident, and respectful to strategically negotiate between multiple, sometimes conflicting interests and teams, to make sure the entire system is optimized and integrated effectively. You will also need to clearly communicate development status, risks, and challenges to program leadership, and track, evaluate and report on system metrics.
You will be expected to participate in continuous improvement and occasionally participate more formally in process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field
  • 3+ years system development/integration experience (level commensurate on experience)
  • Experience in systems engineering, preferably in aerospace systems including requirements development (decomposition and allocation), verification and validation, and integration and test
  • Knowledge of systems engineering tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA, CAMEO, or similar
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in teams, demonstrated execution and coordination skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time with a strong bias for action
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Desired:
  • Familiarity with liquid rocket engine product life cycle, including system architecture
  • Understanding of rocket engine systems and components such as turbopumps, combustion chambers, injectors, regulators, check valves, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic valves, actuators, and other fluid system components
  • Familiarity with test engineering or test facility design
  • Multidisciplinary experience, proficiency in engineering skills used to craft, develop, and evaluate software/electrical/mechanical/operational systems.
