About the opportunity:

Sagent is currently seeking a Mainframe Systems Engineer to join its Technology Service Delivery organization. In this role you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supporting the Mainframe code release process, ensuring all components of a release are in place and successfully completed.

In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for assigned releases, ensuring they are delivered on time and with high quality. You will also be responsible for driving the resolution of issues identified by the Development, QA and other teams participating in the release process and ensuring senior management has visibility into the trade-offs associated with every decision made. The role also calls for the production and synthesizing of release related metrics, you will be a key stakeholder in the defined post implementation review and lessons learned process, and assist with driving business-wide release process improvements. You will need to demonstrate strategic thought leadership and continually evangelize the value of streamlining into the Enterprise Release framework and how it will drive increased efficiency, consistency and quality for our clients.

This role is multi-faceted, requiring a candidate with strong communication skills and an individual that isn't above rolling up his/her sleeves to get administrative busy work done.

Additionally, this role will help with the strategic roadmap of process-improvements within the Configuration Management processes, will help with supporting the Service Management team, which includes Change and Release Management.

Your Day-to-Day at Sagent:

• Support daily code elevations between the lower and test regions
• Review Mainframe error logs and assist with troubleshooting issues
• Oversee code releases for our Mainframe Commercial Applications
• Verify code releases and confirm success/failure
• Good understanding of Mainframe architecture and environments, Endeavor, and the ability to support COBOL
• Forward Plan the SCM release tasks across the Mainframe Applications
• Manage risks and resolve relevant issues that impact release scope
• Measure and monitor progress to ensure releases are delivered on time and with high quality
• Communicate all key SCM milestones, and review change requests where applicable
• Support Clients acceptance testing (UAT)
• Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
• Produce Software Configuration Run Books and Implementation Plans where required
• Attend weekly release meeting representing SCM and provide updates as needed
• Work with Release Management to understand impacts of code merges
• Drive continuous improvement within the SCM process
• Assist with Post Implementation Reviews where required
• Demonstrate the ability to coordinate cross-functional work
• Leverage existing knowledge and familiarity with industry standard tools used to deliver quality services to internal and external clients
• Run Product Release calls when necessary for coverage
• Promote effective analysis to determine root cause of application/product/services problems; utilize past experience and observations to resolve issues and support creation of best practices
• Execute effective decision-making, where analysis, deductive reasoning aid in supporting productive decisions based upon informed judgement
• Participate in DR Events and DR tests
• Deliver quality in everything you do and meet or exceed commitments with internal and external clients
• Strive continuously to identify areas for increased efficiency, process improvements and support proactivity in delivering high quality results

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent education in a related discipline; or related technical work experience
• 1-2 years Software Configuration Management experience
• 2-3 years of Mainframe operations/support experience
• Familiarity and experience working in a software development framework
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Project Management experience is a plus
• Knowledge of CA Endevor
• Familiarity with Web. Services, HFS artifacts
• IBM mainframe, ISPF, TSO, MVS JCL, VSAM Files, Cobol and REXX programming experience is a plus
• Experience with IT Change Management Process.
