CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS*:
Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, this position is responsible for the long-term design/upgrades and day-to-day maintenance of all Information Technology systems, including servers, virtualization, email, storage, domain, and backup services. The Systems Administrator I implements and supports County technology as it relates to the needs of County departments and the priorities of the County Strategic Plan. This position requires advanced technical proficiency to act as Tier Ill support for all systems-related issues. The Systems Administrator I position must effectively collaborate with vendors and consultants, and occasionally must communicate with Division Leaders, Department Directors, County staff and supervisors, and members of the County Board. In addition, this position requires exceptional judgement, discretion, and initiative to work independently, but under the general authority and responsibility of the Isanti County Information Technology Manager.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Ensures that day-to-day technology systems are operational.
- Administers virtual server environment (VMWare) and manages virtual host resources.
- Maintains security and updates virtual server software for ESXI hosts, vSphere clients, and virtual machines.
- Administers physical servers, HPE SimpliVity HCI, and implements hardware/software upgrades.
- Maintains security and updates physical and virtual server Operating Systems to comply with Microsoft patches and OS lifecycles.
- Works with the Information Technology Manager to research and collaborate with county departments to fulfill technological objectives and resolve workflow issues, ensuring quality and integration with existing technology, while following Information Technology security standards.
- Assists Information Technology Manager to provide descriptive, statistical, and accurate reports on departmental, project, and program operations. Assists to maintain systems of recordkeeping that ensure accuracy, availability, and security of private information.
- Administers backup environment, including systems backup schedule, and maintains off site storage. Restores systems and user files from backup on request.
- Ensures conformance to established policies, procedures, and standards, and reports any violations to the Information Technology Manager.
- Tier Ill support to Systems Support Specialists for all systems issues.
- Creates software packages, creates and deploys group policies, creates and implements PowerShell scripts, and creates and upkeeps groups in Active Directory and Azure Active Directory.
- Provides advanced application and vendor product support for department-specific server applications. This includes troubleshooting as well as creating and updating documentation.
- Assists with audits as needed, including collection of logs/data, and implementation of new security changes.
- Administers County Office 365 mail and collaboration systems, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Any combination of training and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Advanced ability to solve complex design problems, utilizing advanced analysis and research.
- Ability to create advanced technical documentation for users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Advanced ability to analyze data and present information and recommendations.
- Exceptional ability to lead implementation of systems for large, high-risk projects.
- Extensive and current knowledge regarding the practices, trends, and issues affecting technical systems in relation to the needs of County government.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Server Operating Systems, Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Name System, Windows Server Update Services, Office 365 (including Exchange, Azure, Teams, and Security), PowerShell, SAN/NAS technology, VMWare virtualization, Veeam backup systems, Sophos virus protection, and UPS technology.
- Regular and timely work attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum of 2 year degree in management information systems, computer science, business administration, or a related field and 2 years of progressive experience in a related field; or 4 years of progressive experience in a related field with an emphasis on Systems Administration.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Isanti County.
