Job Description:

The primary role will be working with our development team and our partner, Hitachi, Ltd. Japan, the HPE Installed Base and Pre Sales, and Technical Support engineers on Mainframe Attachment of XP Storage Arrays. The HPE XP Storage Array is the equivalent to a Hitachi or Hitachi Vantara Tier 1 Storage Array; G1500, G5500, etc. This array is the result of joint development by HPE and Hitachi, Ltd and then the end product is OEM’d back to HPE and sold as an HPE XP7 or XP8.

The ideal candidate should have experience on the HPE/Hitachi storage platforms, experience with any Tier 1 storage particularly IBM Tier 1 storage. The main requirement is that the candidate has expert level knowledge of storage used in mainframe environments and has strong IBM mainframe knowledge.

The position will involve three main areas of work. 1) 45% will be collaborating with Hitachi to plan new mainframe functionality that keeps pace with the latest features/functionality released by IBM. 2) 45% will be collaborating with HPE Storage Pre Sales to position XP storage in new sales deals, planning the appropriate XP array configuration to meet or exceed customer needs. 3) 10% will be assisting XP Level 3 Technical Support (the highest level of XP field support) in troubleshooting field mainframe related technical escalations.

Must be familiar with all aspects of mainframe storage environments. In addition to development, testing and product support experience, the ideal candidate will have solid technical depth in all or most of the following areas:

• Experience with Tier 1 storage arrays, preferably HPE, Hitachi, HV, IBM or EMC
• Expert Level knowledge of z/OS internals, z/OS system software, IBM Utilities, JES, ISPF, JCL, ICF Catalogs, VSAM, VSAM/RLS, RACF, data replication, SMF data collection and reporting, data transfer, zVM and zLinux.
• Strong experience with SMS (DFSMS), DFHSM, DFDSS, IDCAMS and RMM.
• Expert knowledge of catalog structures, LPAR sysplexes and resource sharing.
• Advanced experience as a systems performance / capacity planner / storage engineer managing mainframe processing, storage / DASD& Tape, in a multi-CEC, multi-LPAR, multi SYSPLEX, z/platform environment.
• Expert skills in one or more of the following: SAS, REXX.
• Extensive knowledge with real time trouble shooting of performance issues in a z/OS environment.
• Deep understanding of SMF record types as related to data statistics and RMF reporting.
• A genius in analyzing performance on DASD and tape subsystems.
• Strong knowledge of IBM Workload Manager (WLM), RMF Monitor III, RMF Post Processor, RMF Performance Data Portal, Omegamon, Epilog, Ca-MICS, TDS/IzPCA, COGNOS, Ca-SYSVIEW, Ironstream, SPLUNK and DVM.
• Experience with design of tests to validate software functionality, robustness, performance, as well as environmental health and stability.
• Extensive knowledge of DASD hardware configurations incorporating replication.
• Expert knowledge of IBM DS8K and EMC VMAX/PowerMax family hardware.
• Expert level knowledge of mainframe data replication and migration software and technology from IBM (Global Mirror, Copy Services Manager (CSM), GDPS) and EMC (SRDF/A, GDDR, Autoswap).
• Advanced experience with data migration (FDRPAS, FDRMOVE, TDMF) and hardware refresh techniques.
• Extensive skills in preparing and implementing disaster recovery plans.
• Expert knowledge with site swap and disaster recovery testing and procedures.
• Brocade and Cisco FICON Switches, Replication Switches, and Network Advisor.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent

Minimum 10 years of mainframe experience

Designing software systems running on multiple platform types

Storage software/systems testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, testing scripts and tools.
