PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Tandem / HP Non-Stop Administrator / GE Centricity Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of system hardware, software and related infrastructure. They are responsible to schedule application/software upgrades / changes in the development, test and production environments for the hospitals EMR system. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure and application environment. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.


This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the initiation and planning phases of our standard project management methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures policies and procedures are being followed regarding change requests, administration and management of the system.
  • Incident management and communicates to the user community regarding storage changes.
    Posting of alerts, system status changes, and other web-based communications.
  • Follows change control procedures to implement off-hour changes to the server infrastructure or software/application environment and coordinating with other team members.
  • Communicates with the Technology Services, Service Center, Applications group and Client Services groups regarding changes and/or systems impact.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and predicts trends for system uptime reports.
  • Plans capacity for systems, storage and backup demand management.
  • Troubleshoots and identifies problems with infrastructure or application.
  • Maintain system uptime through use of various monitoring, reporting, and alerting solutions.
  • Proactively works with clients and other technical support staff to resolve production issues.
  • Proactively raises issues if specifications, architecture, or implementation strategies will lead to quality or system performance issues or problems.
  • Participates in technical design reviews, functional specification reviews, and contributes to ongoing project estimates, scheduling, test plans, and code reviews.
  • Demonstrates self-directed and proactive approach to tackling problems and leveraging resources consistent with the overall goals of the project.
  • Mentors and recommends training for team members as well as members of other departments.


  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:


  • This individual will be part of the on-call rotation. These responsibilities will entail monitoring the ticket queue and resolving/assigning tickets as necessary as well as providing assistance to internal IS&T technicians, as needed, for JeffChart infrastructure, application related requests, issues and questions. This responsibility entails responding to off-hours calls for 24x7 support systems, and either resolving the problem or escalating to the necessary IS&T technician, engineer, or manager.


  • This individual should have a high level of technical ability, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. A team-oriented individual with good oral and written skills is required for this position. Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time, lift and carry up to 40 lbs., unassisted.


  • This individual may also be called upon to perform projects and other activities by management.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Prefer Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix / Linux / Microsoft / HP NonStop.

Four + year’s system administration / operations experience.

AITIONADDL INFORMATION:

Familiarity with one or more programming languages: Java, Cobol, C, Perl, or other various scripting languages.

Familiarity with general change practices and procedures.
