The Syndicated Loans and Management Department (“CSL”) is one of the major departments at IFC, responsible for raising external funds for IFC clients from banks through the B Loan program, from Development Financial Institutions (“DFIs”) and other parallel lenders, and from institutional investors through its Managed Co-Lending Portfolio Program (“MCPP”). As part of the CSL, the IFC/MIGA Business Development Partnership (CSLMP) program is responsible for managing the relationship with MIGA focusing on joint business and product development. It connects our partners to MIGA’s long track record of providing risk mitigation solutions to emerging-market investments. It facilitates marketing and structuring of political risk guarantees to IFC clients.
Currently, the CSL department is seeking a Syndication Officer for its CSLMP group based in Washington, D.C. The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be to support the IFC/MIGA joint operations. The Syndication Officer will report to the Program Lead.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Propose and facilitate discussions between IFC and MIGA sector/regional/thematic teams on the joint strategy, resulting in a robust joint pipeline. Follow international lending markets and insurance activities to understand and anticipate trends.
- Identify joint business opportunities and support the development and implementation of a shared pipeline of transactions in line with IFC-MIGA shared goals.
- Facilitate initial discussions with IFC teams and clients to promote MIGA products for projects and clients, ensuring effective cooperation in terms of client management, deal structuring and efficient transaction processing.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and various stakeholders to maximize business origination and impact.
- Support the team in the development of new products to create private sector investment opportunities in new emerging markets. This could be a leading or a supporting role.
- Effectively share information and promote joint IFC-MIGA approach to various IFC teams. Promote knowledge management and learning.
- Closely monitor various IFC/MIGA activities and support the team with data analyses and progress reports and executive summaries in collaboration with other departments.
- Manage operational aspects of the Unit: (i) Fee processing, analysis and verification; (ii) Mobilization reporting and (iii) Joint process improvement.
- On select activities cooperate with more junior staff and support their overall development.
Selection Criteria
- Master's degree in finance, economics or other related areas, or MBA.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of operational banking and insurance experience, with exposure to emerging markets.
- Demonstrated experience with business and product development and transactions structuring.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of insurance products and of IFC investment products and their deployment in emerging markets.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively influence the support and perception of clients/stakeholders. Ability to draft documents and reports that are concise, well-organized and appropriately focused on the most critical points that are relevant to the target audience.
- Pro-active, resourceful, and self-motivated.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaborative behavior with ability and willingness to involve others in decision making and to seek guidance when appropriate, embracing diverse ideas and approaches while pro-actively sharing own perspectives.
- Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize effectively, willingness to cooperate in global organization with teams that are based worldwide which requires flexibility outside regular office hours.
