The Surveyor Technician Apprentice position will be an 18-24 month full time paid program. Upon completion of the apprenticeship this position will transfer to a Surveyor Technician. The ideal candidate will personally perform construction staking tasks for all phases of civil construction projects. Perform calculations from plans for laying out of curb, storm drainage pipe/structures, and general grading instructions. Constructing layout files from site plans and civil drawings. Operate a company vehicle and all associated survey instruments and tools.

Essential Job Functions

Duties include, but will not be limited to

  • Read blueprints and perform field computations from plans for layouts.
  • Assist party chief with layout & shooting grades.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  • Set-up and operate robotic total station, back sights and operate prism pole and data collector for precise layouts.
  • Set-up GPS base and rover package and operate for precise layout.
  • Perform layouts using Survey Pro software and Trimble field software.
  • Run level loops and provide grades for control set up and general layout
  • Keep equipment clean and calibrated.
  • Provide field training to crew member.
  • Obtain company provided safety training certifications.

Job Requirements

  • Have a Strong work ethic
  • Must have a solid aptitude for mathematics
  • Must be able to learn to proficiently use Survey Pro Surveying software for computation and layouts.
  • Able to provide strong leadership and communication to survey assistant(s) and site foreman.
  • Experienced at problem solving and being an effective communicator.
  • Must be able to learn to operate all engineering equipment used in the field, computer and other office equipment such as fax, calculator, document reproducing equipment and communications equipment.
  • Position requires a valid driver license and must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
