Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Scrub Technologist is an active member of the nursing team in the Operating Room. The Surgical Scrub Technologist functions under the direct supervision of the OR nurse. He/she is responsible for assisting the OR nurse in assessing the needs of the patients, infancy through life span, and for organizing and planning care sufficient to meet identified needs during the intra-operative phase, by performing technical duties as assigned. The surgical scrub tech will be cross trained/oriented to ENDO. The Surgical Scrub Technologist supports hospital mission, values and visions.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklist(s) for the OR and ENDO. Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives established annually as listed on the Performance Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposed to temperature variances related to patient and/or equipment needs, lighting ranging from dark to bright, hazardous materials, radiation; and exposure to communicable diseases and blood born pathogens.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The Surgical Scrub Technologist must be able to function efficiently under rapidly changing conditions and stand and walk for prolonged periods of time while on duty. Must be able to withstand stressful situations. Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while moving/lifting patients or objects. Must be able to move up to 50 lbs and is required to obtain assistance when moving weights greater than 50 lbs.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Will be required to take call on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Work hours may fluctuate to accommodate the operating room schedule.

What qualifications you will need:

Education: High School or GED.

Licensure/Certification: Certified Surgical Tech required

BLS required

Experience: One-year surgery experience preferred.
