Position Overview: :
The Syringe Access Services (SAS) program provides evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes for people who use drugs (PWUD), including decreasing accidental death due to overdose; reducing HIV, STI and HCV infection and transmission rates; and improving engagement in care, treatment and adherence. Sites provide syringe access and disposal services, harm reduction supplies, health education, counseling, support, outreach, linkage, and other community and health improvement-focused services.
On March 16th 2020 in San Francisco ``Shelter in Place” orders went into effect as a public health response to COVID-19. Starting in April, the City of San Francisco started housing people experiencing homelessness deemed vulnerable, in hotel rooms. Working in partnership with the Department of Public Health SFAF’s Syringe Access & Disposal Services (SAS) program was activated to respond to the need for access to Narcan and safer use supplies and provided over 10,839 safer use kits, 180,100 syringes, and over 10,400 doses of nasal or injectable Narcan at the 27 Shelter in Place hotel sites.
The Supply Prep Associate – Per Diem, Temporary works closely with the SAS Health Educator II and under the supervision of the SAS Associate Director of the Harm Reduction Center. Responsibilities include: preparing raw materials to be handed out as harm reduction supplies, assembling safer use kits, taking inventory of supply prep and kit assembling supplies and working with inventory team to fulfil supply restocks. This occurs at our 1035 Market street location.
Working on-site at the Harm Reduction Center and in the field at Mobile Syringe & Health Access sites building relationships with program participants; providing syringe access, safe disposal services, access to Narcan and other harm reduction supplies.
This is a per-diem, temporary position working 10-20hrs per week that will end August 31, 2022. :
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: :
Supply Prepping and Kit Assembly: : Responsibilities include preparing raw materials for use as harm reduction supplies, assembling different types of safer use kits, coordinating and tracking the inventory of completed supplies and kits, taking inventory of supplies for restocking and moving supplies, kits and raw materials between different SFAF locations.
Health Education Associate: : Responsibilities include staffing the Harm Reduction Center and Mobile Syringe & Health Access sites building relationships with program participants; providing syringe access, safe disposal services, access to Narcan and other harm reduction supplies. Providing health education and access to informational resources related to HIV/HCV/STI testing and treatment, overdose prevention and response, and other health services
Site Maintenance and Support: : Staging and breaking down/cleaning the work areas a sufficient stock of program materials necessary. Maintain an up to date originals binder for all resource sheets, educational flyers, and pamphlets. Keep flyer inventory at the 6th Street harm reduction center stocked, orderly, clearly labeled, and replenish copies as needed.
Data Coordination & Collection: : Document inventory and activities with accuracy and timeliness.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS: :
Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position is an essential role during the Covid-19 pandemic. PPE will be provided and all COVID safety precautions are observed.
The position requires work during evenings and weekends. :

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: :
- Knowledge of substance use and health concerns of people who use drugs
- Knowledge of health and social services throughout the city of San Francisco.
- Awareness and sensitivity to diverse and marginalized populations.
- Ability to speak candidly and knowledgeably about drug use and sexual risk.
- Ability to follow safety protocols, and use sound judgment in making independent decisions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment with people who can be high, low or crashing and/ or who may have untreated mental and/or physical health challenges.
- Good organizational skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs including Excel.

- Minimum, one year’s experience working with people who use drugs and those experiencing homelessness, and highly marginalized populations.
- Strong understanding of harm reduction practices and principles, experience doing health education preferred.
- Understanding of HIV/HCV disease prevention and treatment.
