POSITION SUMMARY
Lead a team of Design Drafters to effectively and efficiently produce drawings and BOM. The Drafting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all projects and functions within their respective group. They are responsible for insuring the quality and accuracy of the shop drawings and that the drawings are completed in compliance with the processes in place. The Drafting Supervisor is responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action and performance evaluations for their personnel.
POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of Design Drafters.
- Hiring, mentoring, training, corrective actions, termination and performance evaluations of personnel assigned to their group.
- Ability to answer all questions from internal and external customers regarding drafting and engineering practices, deferring more advanced questions to appropriate parties.
- Reviews and schedules all projects and ensures projects are done on time in a quality manner.
- Responsible for weekly metrics to evaluate the group's performance.
- Provide support to the project management personnel as required.
- Focal point for customer communications and internal tie off's with cross functions.
- Responsible for managing projects thru installation, including mock-ups and testing as required. In conjunction with scheduling, establish, maintain, and communicate project schedules balancing customer needs and our capabilities.
- Monitor key project milestones for schedule completion and scope management.
- Understand design capabilities as it relates to specification interpretation, die design, and manufacturing and engineering limitation and procedures.
- Enable the system of metrics to track Customer Satisfaction, Quality, Delivery and Costs for all projects to help lead and guide the PM team.
- Provide the Manager of Design Drafters data and updates on projects on the team.
- Help provide and manage data analytics on projects.
- Participate in project reviews on critical projects through clear templates and structure in process.
- Be the point relationship enabler internally and externally on projects for issues to help PM resolve.
- Ability to read and understand contract documents (ie. purchase orders, specifications, architectural and structural drawings.)
- Maintain open communications both internal and external to keep projects flowing at optimum success.
- Exercise negotiating skills in dealing with PAR's, back charges, schedule changes, and approvals while adapting to changing conditions throughout the process.
- Compile and submit complete submittal packages including but not limited to: drawings, structural calcs, test reports, product data, LEED information, etc.)
Understand LEED requirements. - Enable corrective actions on back charges through process and people improvements in engineering.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years of post-secondary education in a related field and 5+ years of any acceptable combination of education and experience of progressively responsible advanced drafting experience.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Understanding or experience in AutoCAD
- ERP software
- CTO Pro/Shop View
- Thorough knowledge of Window and Wall Systems products and processes, or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate and develop installation requirements and coordinate with other trades.

- Coaching/Teaching mentality required to evolve the Project Engineering Office
- Excellent working knowledge of the drafting and engineering processes.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to visualize in 3D.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- AutoCad Mechanical 2010 or higher, Microsoft Office Project, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, AS-400
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has direct supervisory responsibilities of design drafters.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Mostly an office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor. The noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate. Available for a moderate amount of travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
