Position Description
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Under general supervision, incumbents supervise technical engineering employees and perform engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and the exercise of judgement impacting daily operations and policy and procedure implementation. Duties result in a product or provide a service or recommendation used by others in making decisions.
This position is for a Supervisor 1, Associate Engineer within the Construction Division of the Nevada Department of Transportation. The candidate for this position will be assigned to a Land Surveying crew that performs a wide range of field and office services such as but not limited to Establishing Aerial Photogrammetry Control, Performing Cadastral Retracement, Establishing Precision Control Networks, Setting Monumentation and Retracement of Right-of-way and other Boundaries. As a Supervisor 1 on this crew, you will be responsible for Training and Supervising Engineering Technicians in setting up, configuring and operating surveying equipment such as Tripods, Global Positioning Gear, Optical Total Stations, Digital Levels, Lidar Scanners, and other Land Surveying Gear. You will also be required to train how to properly upload, download, review and process field data files, notes, pictures, and other project supporting data or information You will also be expected to participate in these efforts and support the other crew members as required to adhere to project requirements and deadlines. A good amount of walking, climbing, lifting, and driving are requirements for this position as outlined in the Positions Physical Characteristics. You will also be required to fill out paperwork and forms, keep equipment and trucks maintained and generally be of assistance as needed and directed by the department head. This position requires out of town travel most of the time and requires the ability to withstand harsh weather climate both hot and cold.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of subprofessional engineering experience; OR four years of experience at the Engineering Technician II level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
