The Haverhill YMCA is seeking Summer Literacy Teachers and Paraprofessional Aides to support summer programming from July 10th through August 11th. Summer Literacy Teachers and Paraprofessionals demonstrate in-classroom and camp leadership for children and youth providing a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement in literacy and social skills. In this role, our paraprofessionals and teachers work together to lead classroom management and address behavioral needs as necessary. As part of our summer literacy program, you will provide consistency in supervision and communication throughout the program day, as well as apply child growth and development principles in working with participants through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth. This role is aimed at ensuring that children do not fall behind their peers during the summer break and are well positioned to continue to advance their learning into the school year.


This is a seasonal role and requires availability during the entire summer program, July 10th - August 11th from 8am - 12pm Monday - Thursday. Summer Literacy staff must also attend required training prior to the start of programming, dates to be determined.

  • Current teacher licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
  • A bachelors degree and at least 2 years teaching experience (practicum experience considered)
  • Previous experience working with children of diverse populations in a developmental setting preferred
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
