AbilityPath and Via West are hiring a Summer Camp Activity Leaders for our camp for children and adults with disabilities!
The Activity Leaders are responsible for preparing and delivering camp program activities, offering adaptive solutions and supporting Counselors to encourage participation.

We offer innovative programs and activities in a vibrant, natural setting that supports social-emotional engagement, independent living skills and joy. Staff and Campers alike enjoy life-changing experiences through their connection with the environment and with each other.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Summer commitment is May 30th - August 18th, 2023
Summer stipend is $6,500; apply by 2/13/23 and if hired, you will receive an early sign-on bonus of $250
Early Application Bonus: Apply by 1/31/23 and if hired, you will receive a $100 in your first paycheck.
Job Duties:
• Greet campers and their families during registration with enthusiasm, establish a good connection at check-in and informing care givers of their loved one's experience at check-out
- Prepare and deliver camp activities including sports, arts & crafts, science activities, culinary, etc.
- Prepare materials for take home items
- Pass out food and make announcements during meal times
- Assist counselors in taking care of camper needs
- Support field trip programming
- Participate in camp activities to encourage participation and great camper experiences
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
In our approach to inclusive hiring, we recognize that job qualifications within hiring policies have been used to exclude candidates from marginalized backgrounds. Below is a list of Education and Work Experience that would be helpful to have in this role, however, we encourage you to apply even if you may not meet all of the listed qualifications, as any combination of lived and learned education and experience can make you a successful candidate.
- at least 18 years of age*
- At least 6 months of leadership experience.
Other desirable experience and qualifications:
- Previous experience facilitating activities for participants
- Previous experience working at a residential camp
- Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
A legal requirement to work at camp
HIRING REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Driver’s License/ID
- Clean Driving Record (if applicable)
- Proof of negative TB test results
- Verification of occupational physical clearance
- Pass a criminal fingerprint clearance
- 18 years of age or job permit clearance
- Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination + first booster
- Verification of eligibility to work in the US
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
Employees have the opportunity to share access needs during the interview process, upon hire, and ongoing throughout their employment. Ability to lift and jointly transfer clients – may require lifting up to 50 lbs, does require bending at the waist and knee- Ability to be on your feet, standing, walking, and occasional running for a significant part of the day
- Ability to perform static standing for up to 45 minutes at a time
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain
- Ability to ride in a van, backseat for up to 2 hours per day
- Ability to sit for up to 45 minutes, 3 – 6 times daily
